3jems, thanks for sharing about color polish. Wow, your teacher at NGI is on the cutting edge of his trade. I'd love to meet him and ask some questions, especially about this polish thing.

Today I went for a manicure wearing my first lavender-green bangle. I asked if they could let me put it under the light for a few seconds. During the nail drying process, I'd seen how my nails were neon blue, if you can imagine that. A bit like glow in the dark kind of effect. When I put the bangle in, there was nothing like that. It just looked like a bangle put under light. So I guess it's probably an A?

If so, it is a fine-grained A bangle, like what Storm Spirit mentioned before. My penlight shows tiny fly wing crystals and a somewhat dense structure, some natural pits but not spider-webby. So maybe i got lucky and got an A for my first bangle. It's just strange that for a fine grained, it doesn't look very luminous or moist on my wrist.

I really must make a trip down to NGI when I am in town and get myself educated.

Here's a pic of my bangle. The light is flattering here.

I love your bangle. It is beautiful.

Druzy, looks like an A to me, ( and (&%$##%^ GORGEOUS!!) but to be more sure, you need the dual wave UV. I don't know if manicure lights are short wave, long wave or a mixture of both. Regarding the UV and color polish, since UV only sometimes detects dyes, best is a gem microscope.

I imagine color polish is like a colored stain that they mix in with extremely fine corundum grit, at the end of the polishing cycle. It probably gets forced into microscopic holes and surface pores, just like a wood stain. I don't think it changes the color of the bangle completely, but probably adds a pop of saturation. Honestly though, looking at 3jems bangle that is color coated, you can almost see it. Best we can do is memorize that "look" and be careful. I think rubbing a corner of the bangle with a cotton ball soaked in acetone might remove some of the color polish, since it is essentially colored wax.
