Keep in mind too that there are different chemical makeups within jadeite, nephrite and serpentine. Within each of these stones, there are different percentages of minerals. This is why some jadeite polishes better than other jadeite with the undercutting that makes an 'orange skin' surface, and why some is tougher than others. In South America, opaque jadeite can actually have a much lower % of jadeite in the stone than Burmese jadeite. Perhaps, this is why even within Burma, 'old mine' jade is famed.

Silver Mom, I thought 'Oil Jade' refers to a type of grey/blue/green. Oil green I believe is a classification of the many greens seen in jadeite. It has a specific look. Water jade refers to how moist the stone looks, versus a dry base, which is considered lower quality. I could be wrong here but I think it's possible to have a watery, oil green jade bangle.

Thanks Clairejune, so would you say that the water ones are better than the oil ones? This is so confusing. LOL
I just purchased a pendant from JoJo to match my blue bangle and it said it was oil. I didn't understand what the differences are.

Silver Mom, Wow!!!!!!!!!!!You are getting the best blues! Now I'm confused too. Sometimes their stuff is mislabeled. I thought Oil referred to oil green, which I've seen on many sites, but never heard of oil blue. Maybe it's a texture. Lets wait for others to answer.

I hope somebody else knows. This piece was only $105. I was shocked and had to buy it.

I believe the "oil" refers to as the shiny sheen on the piece of jade...:smile1:
