Yes it is...have you notice that some jades look really dry and unloved...now that word 'oily' won't apply to them :(

Your jeweler must been busy over the weekend...no worry...I'll wait :D Thanks Silver Mom :)

This is a lovely colour! If u dont mind my asking - where did u buy it from? I like the other one with flower carving too. Very unusual :smile1:. Hope u'll manage to find a nice red one. I'm looking for one too, but so hard to find....

Thanks 😊 the lavender bangle is my mum brought for me & the other one with flower is a gift from my relative from china ( my mum brother ) he also give this to my mum too . Thanks Clairejune, so would you say that the water ones are better than the oil ones? This is so confusing. LOL
I just purchased a pendant from JoJo to match my blue bangle and it said it was oil. I didn't understand what the differences are.

"Water" is not colour but refers to the "texture" (sorry for lack of better word) and is a characteristic in jade most highly prized - higher than colour. Here in this thread I often see members commenting on translucency or transparency of a piece, and this best explains "water". Higher water content means more transparency hence "glass" texture jade is most coveted, next is icy jade etc..

hence glass type jade of imperial green is most valuable and a collector's dream. Imperial jade of very muddy and low water base has much lower value even though the colour may be beautiful.

the earlier pic of the ring I posted from Li Hong's cover page is example of icy jadeite. Highly translucent. "Oil" is colour, refers to a type of denser colour type.

Silver mom, your buddha has a nice face, and certainly "oily" (see the "shine", this is like massage oil has been rubbed over it) and has little water but it is fairly dense otherwise.

Thanks Jadeite. Do you think it is not worth the $105? I am really debating whether I like it or not. Thanks so much for your expert opinion.

Also, when you say it is like oil has been rubbed on it are you meaning that they rubbed oil on it or is it just the look that oil has been rubbed on it?

hi Silver mom, for $105 this is a lovely piece and priced very nicely. f you are chatting with them maybe you might like to ask them to be sure, if there is a crack-line on the right belly of the buddha.

That's a real nice way of describing it. With some patience (assuming not a B-grade piece) one reckons wearing a non-oily jade for a number of years will eventually give it a higher "sheen" thanks to natural oils from the body.:p A different type of "oil" though.

Annanson you can always take your pieces to a gem institute to have them run some tests if you really want to be certain of their grade.

otherwise, they are lovely and gifts from family and to be appreciated as such.

sorry for any misinterpretation - i mean, if you rubbed oil over one of your bangles you will probably understand what "oily" colour means. I did not mean jojo rubbed oil on that pendant before photographing it.
