I really like this idea. So nice.
I also believe you get what you pay for Clairejune. You are right nobody is going to sell you Grade A, good color jade with translucency for a small amount of money. Where do you buy the UV light and how does it work? Thanks for all your wise advice. All that said about other possibly reputable dealers, I haven't had the guts to buy from any of them. If you do, I would start with an inexpensive piece, and ask a million questions first, like about their certificates. Look on line for reviews about the labs from which they came. Look up the lab, ask about 'stone lines' because some are minor and some are major. With the green jadeite bangle I got, well, I was in the mood for some risk. It very different than I thought it would be. It isn't nephrite, it has extreme fractures/stone lines which are surface reaching instead of the advertised "few stone lines." Miraculously, I still think I got a good deal because it has great color and translucency, so I am happy. It did not come from the sites which I mentioned, but still, this is probably a common experience buying from ebay. Be immediately suspicious of jade that has even fair translucency regardless of color for under $2500. Nobody is going to sell you an A grade, fairly translucent bangle for less. Also, it's a good idea to buy a gemological UV light with both long and short wave UV. This will detect polymer, except in extremely rare cases.
The only thing I would be concerned about is the chemical leaching into your skin when the breakdown of the jade starts to occur. One more thing, I'm mistakenly assuming people here want A grade, and I'm looking out for everyone in this way. If you want that color and translucency, don't have the money for it in A grade, and are willing to accept chemical treatment, then B grade is fine. I just don't like how sneaky her descriptions are about her bangles. She is not honest about that. If you decide to buy from her, know that those prices are very high for B jade. You could email her and negotiate down to half that, at least. You probably won't have an heirloom because of durability, and it may not have the energetic qualities of A jade, but you can enjoy its beauty all the same.
Jadeite, in Singapore are there lots of different colors of jade? For example, is there a big supply of Red and Blue jade? What are the prices like for Grade A Jade? Are they of good quality like translucent with good color? Thanks so much. It is so interesting to learn about different places.Clairejune you are most welcome. Hope your bangle turns out to be as stunning as you desire it to be.
Hi petals thank you for sharing your lovely collection I particularly like the darker green one you have.
I agree clairejune, the people on this forum are AWESOME!Druzy, sorry I miss understood. You know, that is a good idea. Thanks for all your suggestions and sharing. Its great to have such nice people like you on this forum!
Really curious about this too. Thanks for asking. For those of you in Singapore, do you have a jadeite market flooded with B jade, or are people more educated about jade, so the B jade is shipped off to other markets? The learning curve for learning enough about the qualities of jade in order to avoid chemically treated ones is harsh and steep! What's it like there? Do you have A, B, C and B&C in most jewelry stores? Or do you have A in such stores and other grades in tourist markets?
