I know this post is kinda dead, cause it's been a while since anyone has posted, but I've been going through my rings and I found some that would be GREAT promise rings...I'll post pics soon.

For our 1 year, my bf got me a wedding band as a promise ring lol. He still doesn't realize thats what it really is and I'm not going to tell him. Its 14k gold band with 10 little diamonds all the way across the top. He bought it at Macy's and the lady that sold it to him didn't realize what the band was either or if she did, she didn't say anything because her commission was higher. Its slightly too big but I wear it almost everyday and slide it halfway on his pinky when he's watching tv so he'll take it off and "practice" putting it on me. hahaha <3

Below is my promise ring. Sorry for the bad picture. I kept trying but couldn't get a good one. It's about 1.50 ct tw and is set in 14kt white gold. It has 3 princess cut stones with round channel set side stones. I've had it for about 2 years now. Since it is a past, present & future ring (because of the 3 stones), my SO wrote be this adorable 5 page story about how our relationship was in the past, how it is now & how he hopes it to be in the future. I'll never forget the day....he gave me this book & told me to read it. Of course I was crying as I was reading it. When I looked up at him he had the ring in his hand & gave it to me. It was sooo sweet!

What's the difference between a promise ring and an engagement ring? Is it like going steady? What ages are we talking about here? Wow I feel left or behind the times.

My best friend's boyfriend bought her an amazingly beautiful promise ring for Christmas. It's white gold with like 3 round cut diamonds and 4 baguette diamonds...it's the most beautfiful thing ever.....

So naturally I, without a boyfriend or even anyone interested (which totally cuks because Valentine's day is 9 days away!), am very jealous.

I was just wondering if anyone had pictures of their promise rings and if they'd be willing to show them to us.

I pointed out a ring to my BF that I really liked and he surprised me with it for Christmas... afterwards we talked about the significance of it and we decided together that it was kind of like a promise ring and that I would wear it on my left hand....

So maybe drop hints...?!
You mean like ::nudge, nudge, wink, wink:: Will you marry me, honey? :graucho:

That is soo romantic!

Wish my bf does something like that!

My boyfriend and I are coming up on our 3 year anni soon and are planning on getting promise rings. At first I was just going to have us both have white gold bands with something meaningful engraved inside, but I came across this ring for myself. And I am leaning towards this little piece or something similiar to it. It's still a band just with a tiny diamond inside. I thought it would be cuter than just a plain band.

I'll add to the resurrection of this thread with a little story... Me and my SO have been together 6 years in January, living together for 4 years now. We've known each other since we were 14 - almost a decade now. We're in our last semester of college before getting our BA's - him in sociology/criminology, me in secondary education/spanish. We're at that point in our lives where we have ZERO dollars. My parents are paying for our rent, I'm student teaching and tutoring for free (reqs for the course), and my SO is still on the fence with what he wans to do. He's interning right now (and getting paid crap), but he's still discovering. We're very, very together - we've been through alot, alot. I always wanted the *perfect* engagement ring - and the perfect engagement... but I've come to the realization that I may have to wait *awhile* for that *perfect* ring, and will that ring truly ever simbolize the purity of our relationship? Truly? Can jewelry really do that? It all began to feel silly to me. I realized I'd never have that type of engagement - that surprise element - because we're so together, we know everything about each other, we grew up together - we know when one is hiding something, planning something, thinking something. I was looking at rings and jewelry for fun online and came upon this ring. It felt right. I felt warm inside. Could this be my engagement ring? It's a solid band - bands symbolize eternity - full circle. Aaaaand it's a TIFFANY diamond (hehehe - no matter how small). I think it's perfect. I think it's us. I showed him the ring - sent it to his e-mail. His immediate reaction was "babe, it's very, very small" - but I'm very, very small (my ring finger is a size 2!!) - and we're very, very poor right now...lol. I love designer everything - come from money - and am pretty much supported by my parents so I own alot of nice, designer things - Tiffany, and the like - but now I'm starting out on my own...we're starting our on our own... and I just think it's a perfect symbol with the perfect sentiment... and I'd be proud to call it my engagement ring...

Just wanted to get that all out there. Damn...that feels good . I'm very, very in love - and ready for this next step  :yahoo:

Livin- What you need to know is that THE persect engagement is YOUR engagement. Other's stories may sound awesome, but the one that matters is yours! And- I love the ring you picked! I saw it in person this summer as my son and his girl were looking. It's gorgeous and its simplicity is so pure and dignified! Size doesn't matter as long as the quality is there and the sentiment behind it is real!

Just a little history about promise rings... My DH and I were going together for a year when he saw a petite diamond at Zales that was like a mini e ring. I have always loed diamonds so he bought it for me. Noa, remember this was 37 years ago so my mother did not like the whole idea. We returned the ring. A few weeks later he found a great ring at a local jewelers. It was a band ring, but the band was made up of letters l-o-v-e with a diamond chio in the "o" I live that ring to this day! We have been married for 32 years and I have had many more dia since then, but I keep the ring in my jewelry box and it makes my heart skip a beat eery time I see it! In those days there was a big push on promise rings- they all looked alike, like mini e rings and they only cost $19! In 14K! I think that was the begining of the promise ring drive but I could be wrong.

This is the promise ring my bf bought me for my bday last year! It's from the Frank Gehry collection from Tiffanys. He got me the 18k white gold one with diamonds, and for himself the same ring but in black gold, without diamonds
