Prom Dresses and Stuff...

They should have some sort of national database that tracks which dresses are bought for which proms so that no one will have to deal with the whole she-has-the-same-dress-as-me thing:P

That's a good idea. I showed up at my prom and saw that someone else wore the same thing  . I think with Easter around the corner, you should have some luck finding dresses because I think stores mark dresses down afterwards. Is there a particular style your looking for? Are you willing to look online? I love dresses that don't scream "prom", and love the selections at Anthropologie and J.Crew. Good luck!

Northernbelle, if you're going to shop online, LaRegale bags (you can buy them on ebags or zappos) are reasonably priced and pretty.

May I ask what your budget is?

I have been looking online, but I probably won't buy online because it seems that lots of the dresses online have really a long wait time for delivery, and my prom isn't that far away (June 2nd). I wish Matt would have decided to accompany me sooner...oh well, at least I'm going:biggrin: .

I hope they do mark stuff down. That would make my dad happy:P .

I'm more into the dresses that look like prom dresses. I want to get something A-line or slightly puffier than A-line, because I need some sort of fullness to the skirt but I don't want to wear something so puffy that I look like a cupcake. I also don't want anything that's too busy or gaudy looking. I'm probably going to go with a dark color (because I'm really fair-skinned and therefore pale and pink-looking), and I'm definitely wearing a shawl because I would feel way too naked without one.

Thanks:smile:

Thanks for the links, those bags look pretty:smile: .

My clothing budget (dress, shoes, shawl, etc) is about $500 or less. I'm aiming to stay in the $200-$400 range on the dress.

I never went to any school dance and that might be the reason why I love formal dresses! I have 50+ of them, mostly from DEB. They carry decently priced dresses and they always have some on sale!

You know, I was just in a wedding where we had to wear Jim Hjelm bridesmaid dresses, and I think they would be perfect to wear to a prom, like this one. Since you can customize the colors and fabrics, you could have some unique combinations!

I am not too sure where you live, but maybe you & your mom could take a mini-out of town weekend to go shopping. For my sister's senior ball we went to San Francisco (we were from Sacramento about an 1 1/2 away) to go shopping for her dress. She ended up getting from Macy's but it was style that was not carried at our local Macy's.

Also I agree with Evoque about checking out bridal stores to see the bridesmaid dresses.

I am really excited for you to go because you will have a blast and it will be a time that you will cherish forever.

I live on Long Island. I don't think my mom and I will need to do any major traveling, but it sounds nice. There's this place on LI called Pzaz that specializes in formal dresses and prom stuff. I've never been there, but it sounds like a good place. (Anyone here ever been there?)

Thanks

I know you don't want to shop online, but at least you can get some ideas, right? Here are a few cute dresses (I hope they fit your bill) from Nordstrom.com:

From Bloomingdales.com

I know some aren't very "promy", but I think they are really cute! Good luck!

Would it be too depressing/morbid/not festive to wear a black dress? I've been told I look nice in black, but I'm afraid people will think it's boring and not-happy-ish:worried: .

Also...If my dress ends up being floor length and you can't see my feet...could I get away with just wearing nice new sneakers?:P I'm terrible at walking in heels, and formal shoes tend to make my feet hurt:sad: .

And I recently discovered that they make high heels that light up...reminds me of those sneakers we all wore in kindergarten that lit up when we walked:P . I would never do the light-up heels things though...seems sort of tacky:P A really goofy girl could probably get away with wearing them though:P
