Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Don’t go cutting Elton any slack. That showman would not use a two-year-old video in his farewell tour without updating it. If Harry and Meghan are still part of it, it’s because he wants them there. Can’t imagine why but it does make me think a little less of him.
I *was* a big EJ fan and have seen him a couple of times in concert. I am sad that he has chosen to back the Harkles and have lost all respect for him.

Got me thinking what Ghoul might do. Make Grandpa Markle guest of honor at Archie’s 4th Birthday? H rushes home from Coronation to embrace father-in-law he’s never met? Sugars go into gooey meltdown about the Grandfather who showed he really cared about Archie by being there to help blow out candles?

Realllllly hope not. But she is evil enough to do something to destroy the day. I think it’s BS from her PR grinders that she wants to heal any rift. As all the documentation in Tom Bower’s book proves, plus all we’ve witnessed the past few years, there is a lifetime of data proving she is not wired to be nice.
There is nothing she can do to destroy the day. This will be a historic, once in our lifetime (depending on your age:lol: ) event. She can pull stunts to draw attention to herself in the US, but she cannot override this majestic event.

"Invitations based on meritocracy not aristocracy. ‘I am going to follow with great interest the events of this new reign.’”

If you say so. Perhaps she is invited to the evening reception? I read that he didn't want a crowd of 8000 like his mother had.

How very American. Sounds like she is anti-monarchy or am I reading it incorrectly? What has KC done to earn his kingship? William? Yeah, please do give us a full accounting.
Considering TW (allegedly) received an invite, that came across as sarcastic imo.
She does not qualify for either category…

I really wish Hashtag wasn’t going. There’s going to be way too much focus on oh, he went to this, he didn’t go to that, he was seated here….
Won't there be one feed by the BBC that will be shared with other outlets, as they did with the funeral? If that is the case the focus will be where it should be.

In an effort to stay on topic, using the spoiler.

More blunders from Hazz:

Lady Pamela, whose father Earl Mountbatten of Burma was Prince Philip's uncle, attended the Queen's funeral last September in a wheelchair. And afterwards her daughter India Hicks divulged that her mother hoped to be one of the very few people to have attended three coronations – King George VI's in 1937 when she was a girl of eight, the Queen's in 1953, and Charles's.
Meritocracy not aristocracy, my a$$. Of course, the public comments will be supportive of KC, of course - this crowd is most loyal to its country. Privately, wills are being changed, guest lists revised, a few secrets made public :giggle: They have ways of letting KC know he has blundered.

ETA: this is why we love the old money types. Their families did not become aristocracy by playing nice. Nope. Time to take notes. We all are about to be given lessons. Wonder if Cami not being an aristocrat is part of this blunder? :rtr:

ETA2: Gaffe? No, no, it is a blunder when the matriarch of the family is excluded. Definitely a snub.
She knows it. Her family knows it. Now, the world knows it.
'If there's no room for Lady Pamela, who else will be missing?' says one of the King's circle. 'I'm sure it's not a snub but it does look a gaffe.'

All of these awkward moments could have been avoided if she had been willing to accept some pointers in royal comportment from Lady Hussey and others. If I were in her situation I would have been grateful for all the help I could get. But I am not a narcissistic know it all.
I would have been there every day, having them give me feedback until I got it perfect. I would also have made sure that I was respectful and stayed in my place, and that I knew exactly where that place was.

Meghan didn’t understand that by going in like a bull in the china shop, she didn’t look like a proud, confident woman, she looked like an uncouth jerk, and embarrassed Americans by giving all the Euros the opportunity to say, “See? I TOLD you Americans are brash, rude and arrogant.”

Going in front of HM the Queen… SMH… I can’t even. That is on video, forever.

Sliding in front of Harry after clawing him aside to MAKE him let her greet first wasn’t “modernizing the monarchy,” it was clueless of protocol and lacking manners. Yes, in regular people’s world, the gentleman does let the lady go first… but to shove aside a PRINCE without regard to his status and your place… I can’t wrap my brain around how brazen this woman is, and I can only imagine what the royals thought of her as she barreled through like a charging hippo.
