Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Because they don't care about having royal titles........

That's hilariously pathetic!

They are so nausitaingly full of themselves.

But he was so young there. I don't think it's fair to judge him by that moment. I've always gotten the impression that he was shy and introverted but due to his accident of birth became a reluctant extrovert. I am glad there is no video evidence of myself at eighteen.
True…but talking to plants at 30 while being filmed didn’t earn him more regard.
I will reluctantly give him a pass, but as I have said before, no one can fill her shoes.

I happen to like Charles (I'm a shy introvert nerd at heart so I feel for him) and I do think he will do ok as king...but The Queen was one of a kind and I don't see him - or even Wills - ever getting there.

I doubt anyone else ever will. She was an iconic figure for seven decades. I don't think there are many people on the planet who have never heard of Queen Elizabeth II. Even if he surprises everyone and does a respectable job for fifteen or twenty years, he can never match his mother's reign.

Ok, so based on the vegetation behind him, he’s in California.
Unless it is a potted plant.

He seems very eager to show he's in California with the palm tree. I wonder if the rumors that he's still in the UK are true.

I've never had one either, but did have a Donny Osmond T-shirt which I wore with pride aged 4, heck makes me smile even now and I'm approaching 60!
Well, guess what?

Do go see him if you can. We saw Donny and Marie in Vegas a couple of years ago, not expecting much at their age, and were blown away.
As we left, I commented to my husband that they were talented when it was required, to be an entertainer. They didn’t have the technology back then to be anything less than excellent.

OMG, he is an idiot! :amazed::shocked: Not inviting Lady Pamela! Does he not understand that it's just not wise to be too progressive in things like this. He's now angered a lot of people.

"Charles’s relative Lady Pamela Hicks, the daughter of Louis Mounbatten, is also not among the 2,000 guests who will be present on May 6, according to the Daily Mail, who say she received a call from Buckingham Palace informing her that she would not be included.

My mother was not offended at all,” said her daughter, India Hicks. “‘'How very, very sensible,’ she said. "Invitations based on meritocracy not aristocracy. ‘I am going to follow with great interest the events of this new reign.’”

If you say so. Perhaps she is invited to the evening reception? I read that he didn't want a crowd of 8000 like his mother had.

If you say so....

Just like Hazzi, he is trying too hard to hang with the cool kids. Looks like he wants the Hwood/Sports/Celeb crowd.
The grand, older dukes and duchesses bring the gravitas this sort of occasion requires. Considering the post-pandemic award shows failures, Glitz and Glamor impress no one. QE’s funeral should have taught these royals what the people want.

ETA: fwiw, old money [stealth wealth, although with tiaras] is the trend nowadays. Did the BRF not get the memo?

The lady is 94. She may secretly be thrilled that she isn’t obligated to go. She has attended many important events throughout her life, staying home and watching this one on TV is probably a relief.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the older crowd will be at the evening reception and the ladies will pull out all the stops with jewelry and fashion.

It is a slight- she should have been invited but with the proviso if she felt she could not or should not attend she could decline the invite

How very American. Sounds like she is anti-monarchy or am I reading it incorrectly? What has KC done to earn his kingship? William? Yeah, please do give us a full accounting.
