Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

My understanding is that when Hazz renounces his titles, LoS, CoS, he does indeed give up his official ‘princely status’, the position of prince. Sure, he is still KC’s son, he is still part of the royal family, but he would not be part of the British Royal House. For example, King Edward abdicated, he no longer held the position or title of King [which was his birthright]. So, Hazz would simply be Hazz Mountbatten-Windsor.
Just my 2 cents, I could be wrong. :shrugs:

Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau

When this Dutch royal married Mable Wisse Smit in 2004, he did so without the official blessing of the Dutch Parliament. He then abdicated his right to the throne (had his older brother predeceased him). Until his passing in 2013, Friso and his family were still considered members of the royal family, just not the Dutch Royal House.
It’s complicated. It depends what he gives up.

Academic Iain MacMarthanne spoke about this:

“Asked what names Harry and Meghan would be known by if they did ditch their titles, Mr MacMarthanne said: "Were the Duke of Sussex to use the 1963 legislation and renounce his peerage he would automatically revert to being HRH Prince Henry of Wales, and when his father became King, HRH The Prince Henry."

Mr MacMarthanne was keen to emphasise that Meghan only holds her titles via her marriage to Harry.

He added: "If Prince Harry were to renounce his peerage his wife would cease to be the Duchess of Sussex and would instead become HRH Princess Henry of Wales and subsequently HRH The Princess Henry.

"It should be remembered that as far as his wife is concerned she enjoys his titles as a courtesy of their marriage, she does not hold them in her own right, and consequently she would not be formally known as Princess Meghan."

If Prince Harry were to choose to renounce his peerage, and relinquish his royal styles and titles, and presuming no courtesy title of ‘Lord’ is assumed, being the son of a duke himself, then TRH’s Prince and Princess Henry, Duke and Duchess of Sussex would become Mr and Mrs Harry Mountbatten-Windsor, or by whatever other name or names they might choose to be known," MacMarthanne explained.

Yes, renounce and relinquish - this is the only way for H&M to regain any sort of credibility! :dothewave:
Otherwise, he remains the entitled, selfish jerk.

Aww that little baby is soo cute.
It's lovely to have diversity and inclusivity, but enough is enough. I'm so tired of these extreme POVs. Is the coronation not going to be a real coronation unless there's a certain percentage of each race, LGBT, and transgender people there? Give me an F'ing break.
If I know anything about British aristocracy trust me in saying that LGBT people will definitely be represented

Who is this white woman in the ronette wig?

Praise be that they gave her some baby hair for a change I guess.

Also check out how she’s dressed conservatively for the only time in her life- guess that ring wasn’t on the finger yet so she was still playing the ‘good Christian woman’
The standard for good looking in 1975 England may not be what it is today.
I think it is more like these very posh circles have a type and he is that type and so was Philip so he was also thought v attractive. They seem to really like a very patrician pointy face with a big aquiline nose, tall, medium build and very fair and florid.

It’s not so popular now but I think it was more common in the past - it’d explain how Charlton Heston became a film star.
The problem is, they probably don't pay the performers so no-one is interested. Plus, KCIII is not his mother so it's not like an invitation you simply cannot decline. Also we don't know what KC is demanding, he might have his own ideas on what he wants from the concert (most likely doesn't really care).

I really have no ideas for relevant artists. Coldplay? I give up.

They're probably all against the monarchy anyway. :shrugs:
I’m just going to say it- everyone thinks this is a lame gig and no one wants to play it. Charles is lame- he was in the music paradise of the 70s and 80s said his favourite was not David Bowie, not the Stones or the Beatles, not even the Supremes but The Three Degrees (come to think of it they must be free for the ceremony…)

I mean think about it… Britain is still disproportionately dominant in music (apart from rap - please never listen to British rap it’s even worse than French rap)
We have artists like the arctic monkeys, oasis, Adele, Harry Styles, Jorah Smith, Ed Sheeran- all internationally renowned British talent still actively recording and performing….. some of them may have ********** beliefs but I think most of them know it’ll make them look passé.

I mean did you see the Christmas concert? Past it Craig David doing swing and a musical theatre vet singing in the wrong pitch. Not good.
  I recently learned that in England "muppet" also means moron or idiot. Maybe we should call the Sussex Squad the Markle Muppets. Although that is an insult to the real ones.

Aw that is an insult to the muppets-

And interesting use of noted truth-teller Joe Exotic gif. I do think half of these sugar accounts are trolls or bots just trying to get twitter fired up.
No woman would be happy about it. It’s such a weird (and totally insensitive) thing to do. Charles could easily have had the bracelet delivered somewhere where Diana wouldn’t be. It almost makes me wonder if on a subconscious level he wanted her to discover it. He really didn’t want to get married.
Well that or he wanted to assert who was dominant in their marriage and what the double standard was from day 1.

Could she have even pulled out? The mugs and tea towels were printed! Think of the tourism industry! :graucho:

I have felt sorry for the York girls for a long time. Imagine being in your 30s and the press hates you because they hate your parents. These stories are 100% press driven. None of the Yorks can do any right in the eyes of the media.
They are very like Harry in nature I’m afraid -the “spare “ jealousy gene is deeply implanted in them they are really not worth your sympathy - like Harry their youthful actions have been largely covered up in respect to the Queen while she was alive

From what I've gathered there was quite a bit of bed hopping among their set back in the day. Didn't Anne have an affair with Andrew Parker Bowles?
Indeed she did - and Charles and Camilla are still very very friendly with Parker Bowles even now -he is still very much part of their set even represented Camilla officially recently - what may seem strange to others is the norm for the aristocracy

"Hairball" :lol: :lol: :lol:

"There's nothing more 'triggering' for Harry than wrangles over protocol, rules, hierarchy and perceived slights."

Then stay in CA.

I'm so snickering: "As the Coronation date, May 6, is the same day as Archie's fourth birthday, it offered the perfect opportunity for the King's fourth grandchild to receive some special recognition.

Charles was said to be open to the suggestion that he should make a gracious nod to Archie
"

Why should Merchie get any special recognition at all? This is one of those narc-fuelled sentences where they make something absurd sound so matter-of-fact and logical that people get bamboozled into accepting it. On the same level as "As Zed is so wonderful, it was the perfect opportunity for the Royal Family to prove they are not racist by splurging millions of pounds on the wench."

And I'm pretty sure that the BRF never spent so much time doing sweet nods till Zed started tilting her head non-stop.

It's sometimes quite difficult to have diversity and inclusivity, especially when it comes to that invisible disability known as being stupid. I had a subordinate who was bright, cheerful, willing to work if you were watching her. But let her work from home and she would MIA horribly. And her brightness was all surface shine and did not extend to her intelligence: she made the dumbest mistakes such as computing "one minute = 100 seconds" and was too proud to admit her errors. (Just ranting ... luckily she was not a narc, but pretty close to it)

In Zed’s case, snapping the photo from 50 feet away also makes her look much better.
50 feet away, and the soft glow from Sir Candle obscuring her face ...
Has she NEVER had a stylist? :hrmm:
I read that she was very offended when round about the wedding, Jessica Mulroney was said to be her stylist. I think she declared that she was her own stylist (that is, she is too cheap and egoistical to let someone else tell her what to wear and how to wear it)
  I recently learned that in England "muppet" also means moron or idiot. Maybe we should call the Sussex Squad the Markle Muppets. Although that is an insult to the real ones.

"Knowing that Kate took Meghan’s Givenchy bridesmaids dresses to McQueen to be slagged off, makes it even more clear why Kate’s favourite designer Wickstead, publicly trashed Meghan’s dress within 24hrs of the wedding."

I don't even understand this bit.
