Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

The Harkles spokesperson relays the latest news about his beloved masters. I'm sure all of you are looking forward to an update, here it is:
1) South Park was a huge achievement for the Harkles, they are finally in the company of A-listers;:yahoo: 2) wait for more Netfl$$xs shows and philanthropic donations to Archwhatever; 3) the couple is still very 'lovey-dovey'; and 4) they haven't received an invitation to the coronation yet.:cray:

At the centre of this is the now-infamous South Park episode, which certainly pulls no punches in its merciless parodying of Harry and Meghan's tabloid personas – complete with "Stop looking at us!" protest signs and a tell-all book about the Royal Family called Waaagh!.

According to one newspaper, it spells "the beginning of the end" for the couple's popularity in the US. "A clear sign their star has fallen,” wrote another, who has clearly never seen South Park before.

Given that other celebrities lampooned by the show include Tom Cruise, Oprah, the Queen (killed in a 2007 episode that quickly got banned in the UK), William and Kate, Hillary ******* and Jennifer Lopez, I have a feeling they will be just fine

Harry and Meghan are currently focused on work helping create safer online spaces for young people and new Netflix projects with their production company.

Despite the couple being out of sight and busy with various philanthropic and commercial endeavours, a cottage industry of fake news and inaccurate gossip about them is thriving in lieu of new information.

Other recent tales about the Sussexes have suggested the couple are:

"Going through tough times" (false – "Couldn't be happier!" said a friend)…

On top of this, there's near-daily "exclusives" in almost every paper about the couple's supposed plans for King Charles's coronation in May.

The reality, sources tell me, is that no-one, no matter how well-sourced, knows their plans right now – the couple has yet to be invited and can't make a decision, nor any form of itinerary, until that happens.

Did Scobie write that? He is dreaming. Those other famous people got roasted for various reasons, but not for being entitled, whiny phonies. Nobody likes those!

Omid is a curious royal reporter...probably the only one who seems to hate the BRF. That seems kind of...counterproductive to his job profile, doesn't it.

I think the feeling is mutual.

He's like a fashion writer that hates fashion.

I suppose only covering royalty means he doesn't have to go to the front-line of where the real news is e.g. war zones or earthquakes, he can just comment on 'no comment' and make stuff up from his bed - which is what he obviously does when not receiving orders from the Follywood 'royals'

He isn’t the only royal reporter who dislikes royals. They all appear to have their favorites (the ones they kiss up to).

The royals must view them with distain while valuing them as useful idiots when they want to leak something.

Poor Scoobie, he is just a loyal servant. You don't wanna burst his bubble.

Oh Scobie, Scobie, Scobie. Nice try, but there’s a HUGE difference here. The other celebrities referenced were lampooned for minor side stories in their lives, not for their core identities and/or the reasons for their fame, as H&M were.

Ex. Tom Cruise was blasted for Scientology plus some vague overtures about “coming out of the closet”. But Tom Cruise isn’t famous for being a Scientologist. He is famous for having dozens of blockbuster films. The Scientology piece is a minor side story in Cruise’s life. South Park didn’t make fun of his movie career, they made fun of an arguably very minor side stories in his life. Thus the impact of the episode was small and it was fleeting.

H&M, on the other hand, are best known for exactly what South Park was mocking. In a nutshell, they’re known for being a part of the royal family, for their departure from England and for their abandonment of their royal duties all while screaming all of their reasons as loudly and as often as they possibly could across every possible media outlet imaginable. They’re known for their self promoting book and Netflix series. They’re known for their incessant complaining about the press, the RF and everything and everyone that didn’t align with “their truth”. Their known for their narcissistic perspective and their endless victimhood. That’s it. And that’s exactly what South Park attacked. Essentially South Park attacked their characters (or lack thereof) and their behavior. South Park attacked their whole beings, not some side story in their lives.

So, no, Scobie. This is not the same. Sorry….the Sussex squad can’t spin their way out of this one. The damage is real and I’m willing to bet it will be very hard to shake, no matter how many times H&M try to rebrand themselves.

Click for the clip. The good old days!

This comment nails it:

I was an entertainment journalist for a long time, and took acting classes from a famous character actor who has been in the industry for 40 years, and the mistake a lot of these thirsty ‘actresses’ make is they don’t work on their ‘craft’. They think looks, sleeping around, networking and practicing red carpet poses will get them the big jobs. At the end of the day if you don’t have talent you’re not going to get on the A list. She could have used all that energy and money to get her real dream by working on herself. But no…her ego is too big

I think they’re both cuter in this pic than IRL, but isn’t this more appropriate for people who are, IDK, twenty plus years younger than them. . .

Thanks for this. It's exactly what I thought. All of them (Harry, Meghan, Eugenie, Jack) are well into their 30's, but dressing up and partying like 16 or 17 year olds. I'm fine with people having a good time but, in the immortal words of the real Prince, act your age, not your shoe size.

They reached a new high in the States!

Prince Harry's popularity has sunk 48 points since December and Meghan Markle's has fallen by 40 points.

The Duke of Sussex has a net approval rating of -10 and the Duchess of Sussex's rating is -17 according to polling by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek.

Prince Andrew is also viewed negatively but less than the Sussexes, with a net approval rating of -2.

Gee, Scoobie Dumb “forgot” to include this in his latest news release. :annoyed:
