Prince Harry and Meghan Markle thread

I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting, if true:

In keeping with a long-standing tradition, no European sovereigns attend coronations and are instead represented by the crown prince or princess. It is thought this is to ensure all attention is on the new monarch.

Of course, Albert is not technically a king. He may be the scion of the oldest dynasty in Europe – but he is titled Prince.

Perhaps Heads of State were given the date first since they all have pretty structured schedules. Albert is out quite a lot and busy based on the pictures.

I have said I thought the ring was bad luck and would never want it, but Kate has made my superstition fade.
My parents divorced when I was young, but when I married my mother gave me her wide 18K gold band that had been a great-grandmother's. The date in it is something like 1896. I wore it for a long time on my right hand but it no longer fits. We've been married for 40 years.

The good karma outweighed the bad

Ditto for the most part, but I still would have some qualms.
To me it’s about bad memories instead of bad luck. A wedding ring from a grandmother who had a long, happy marriage is a much nicer symbol than a ring from a divorce, no matter how pretty the ring.

The boys were still young when they got to choose. They weren’t thinking about what some future, hypothetical wife might like. They were asked to select a keepsake that belonged to their mother. Hard to guess what went into their decision.

do we think the Wife is using her networking skills to try to get this job? would she be willing to do the work? I'm sure this would be an ideal fit (in her mind) for the image she wants to portray
It may be the image she wants to project, but I doubt she wants to do the actual work. I think UN officials were already on to them after their two questionable visits, and all their negative press lately would only distract from the role. So I'm going with no.
