I kindly request that all members participating in the MM and Harry thread dial back the vile rhetoric.

I am not opposed to discussing public personas on TPF, including the constant torrent of news surrounding the couple from this thread. But I find it troubling when their looks are being nitpicked apart to a degree that is just not appropriate.

This thread has drawn criticism over the years, and I discussed it at great length with Megs and the mods. I am not looking to close it down, but the vitriol needs to be dialed back.

My personal feelings about hate threads aside, this ultra-negative vibe is something better suited for other forums, Reddit, or elsewhere. I am holding our community to higher standards.

Yeah maybe, I mean the thing it comes down to for me is you can have all your sensitive boys time in your own time don’t tacky up yet another overpriced public event no one wants with yet another cringe press outing for H&M.

Every one profited from the trade. That includes people who built the ships for example. And those who fed the tradesmen. And on and on.
So being defensive about any role in slavery is nonsensical. The only people who did not benefit were the slaves.
We as a collective needs to recognize the past and make amends and pay reparations.
How else could we honestly move on as a civilization?

I mean the idea that the peasantry profited because some of them were able to earn enough through their incredibly unstable work to avoid starving to death is a bit of a strange definition of profited.
The triangle trade and industrial revolution saw the displacement of the native small businesses of wool weavers with the cheaper imported cotton, the annexation of common land used in peasant farming and grazing with the enclosure acts, the destruction of rural communities and a massive growth in perilous working conditions and child labour. While eventually the growth of industry allowed the creation of medical and philanthropic improvements it was done at enormous cost and many generations didn’t see any benefit. There was exploitation of the masses for the benefit of the few in every area of all societies involved.
Slave trading societies like the Dahomey were exploited and saw starvation too as their economy was driven to be more reliant on unsustainable slave trading regardless of how rich their king and his circle got. No one would disagree a slave’s lot is the most miserable but the idea that any others of working class were purely benefitting is also over simplistic.

Speaking of South Park, I just thought of that bit in team America where the film actors guild are like ‘as actors we need to repeat what we hear in the newspaper as though it were our own thoughts’

3/5 of these their first point would be ‘hitch your waggon to a more famous man’ :rolleyes: I mean it’s not bad advice I guess

I don't know, he also can't leave anything alone. Like a dog with a bone, actually more like a JRT with a bloody nose, trying to tell off a curled-up hedgehog. He is so PO that not only does he look like a loser, he can't provoke a fight.

He's not used to 'tumbleweed' because he's usually on the other side of the fence, and whilst he was never in the thick of it, helping putting out fires, I'm sure he got all the gossip/low down of what the BRF really thought. He can't even be in touch personally anymore because they (his family) cannot trust him not at all.

The silence must be deafening

Harry left the BRF for privacy and hates tabloids, therefore, Harry wrote a tell-all memoir about his penis and losing his virginity, getting off his head with drugs and drink etc etc etc etc etc

That's truly horrendous.

I went out last night and had a very nice time, that's the only excuse I can offer for my utterly appalling attempt at writing. Prosecco at Gucci Valentine's, Champagne at Saint Laurent New Season opening and free champagne at a photography exhibition with only nibbles at intermittent intervals. It's a really hard life (I'm surprised I caught the right train home TBH).

Unlike Harry, I will own actions and consequences thereof.

The position of ghost-writer for future posts is now open. At least until I am fully hydrated.
