Maybe this thread will know - I'm reading Endgame and he mentions that Edward and Sophie were given their new titles but Charles stipulated they can't be passed down - why is that?

I read that KC3 considers the Duke/Duchess of Edinburgh titles to be quite important given the connection to Scotland and that the title was held by Prince Philip. If the title was inherited by a child of Edward and Sophie and then allowed to pass down to that child's descendants, eventually the title would be held by a distant branch and cousin to the reigning monarch. So, it'll end with Edward and Sophie and then revert back to the monarch, likely William, to potentially bestow on someone like Princess Charlotte perhaps one day, someone with a much closer connection to William and George and then George's children. That's just what I recall reading months ago.

Interesting, thank you!

Thank you for sharing this.

I don’t think Sophie and Edward are getting the public attention they deserve for all their hard work. Her calendar has been particularly full, and in several far away places.

I know they are not focused on the publicity, but featuring their carrying out so many Royal duties with grace and dignity helps send the message the Monarchy continues to survive and has an important role in supporting so many good causes that might otherwise be ignored.

Particularly since King Charles bestowed him Duke of Edinburgh it seems like Prince Edward has loosened up a bit in embracing crowds of admirers and has a more relaxed smile. He’s stepped up, out of his usually more reserved demeanor. His whining Nephew should take note, his Uncle is an example of how a real Royal adapts to change and legitimately leads a life of Service.
