Some people might think this strange, but I think you will understand. Among the Elvis fans in my family, lyrics in “Love Me Tender” were interpreted in a generic way, not just a romantic one. My mother sang some verses as a lullaby to her grandchildren.

These come to mind as you, a loving daughter, are sitting bedside comforting your mother, “You have made my life complete, and I love you so. Take me to your heart, for it’s there that I belong, and we’ll never part.”

Thank you - I have tears rolling down my cheeks now sitting here stroking her -she is hooked up to so much machinery yet looks so tiny frail and vulnerable my heart is breaking - all day I’ve thought of us sitting listening to Elvis gospel songs in thr little chapel in Tupelo at his birthplace - she didn’t want to leave it - she is sleeping at long last today it’s been a bad last 36 hours
