ITA. The last price increase was supposed to cover the move of the Euro from the $1.25 range to around $1.55. Do they think we can't keep up with currencies all by ourselves?

In speaking with the SM at the Atlanta store last night, she told me that the August increase is currency fluctuation related, but that the one in February will take into consideration the exorbitant price increases in energy and fuel. She said that just the cost of transporting the goods from France to the US has gone up astronomically. Only half-kiddingly, I asked her if we get a discount if we fly over to Paris and pick the bags up ourselves. No response!:p

I've got one scarf on the way, and I'm considering another Cotton Charm Mini Brides de Gala, but that's probably it. Most everything I adore will be around $750 and up, and that's getting extreme.

Like you, LV may be in my future. I've had some issues with their quality, but if I like what I see in person, yeah, it'll be a consideration. I still haven't gotten rid of my desire for a Neverfull.

It really is a shame, because I love buying H. I suppose I'll get what I can before the price increase-- a scarf or two, max-- but after that, I'm done and back over to Louis Vuitton. Their bags (or the ones I've had anyway) are indestructible, and I don't mind paying $6k-$1k on a bag I'll have for a long time. But I just can't justify over nine thousand dollars for some cowhide. I've gotta start being more practical :push:

I think they're just pushing what corporate says to tell the customer. The last price increase was supposed to cover the jump of the Euro to the $1.55 area, and that's still where it's sitting.

Luxury brands in particular are going to say things like this, but if you do some digging, you find out that they've already got some of the highest profit margins in retailing. Everyone, whether they produce fragrances, cars, furniture, jewelry, clothing, cosmetics or leather goods, want to be deemed a "luxury" label so they can make that much more. It's then up to the consumer to say they won't play that game. Burberry is going to China but will be charging the same, and I hope their customer base notices.

The luxury market is definitely changing in many ways, and unfortunately I can't say it's for the good.

We'll just have to baby everything Hermes so it'll last. I do that with the silks and cashmeres anyway, and the only things I put through the normal paces are the Cottom Charms and leather items.

Blast! I wasn't ready to go cold turkey on Hermes. *G*

I KNOW, I'VE PRETTY MUCH HIT THE WALL! I'LL HAVE TO WEAR WHAT I HAVE UNTIL THEY'RE IN TATTERS.:crybaby:

All this coming while the economy is slowing down and gas is going up. I wonder how some of the new botiques will fair. It does seem crazy to pay more as Hermes becomes more plentiful.

Look at it this way:
more stores opening up = more opportunities to buy H (more plentiful)
more expensive = elss opportunities to buy H (less willing to spend)

it evens out and remains just as exclusive =)

and the profit margins ARE huge -- case in point, my friend who worked in Montreal's H over 10 years ago said her staff discount was 60%, and she was JUST an SA -- nothing high up on the corporate ladder or anything.
