Price Increase Update

Was in Glasgow today and asked the SA if there was going to be a price increase (I was looking at the scarves at the time). The lady serving me said she wasn't sure so asked another SA who said there WOULD be an increase in the UK. Scarves will raise to £208 effective from the 1st August.

They never had ANY of the new designs and said it would be NEXT MONTH before they arrived (and then only a few at a time) so if I wanted a particular colour and it had to be ordered in, chances are I'd have to pay the increased price by the time it arrived.:crybaby:

Just to cheer myself up, managed to get the Marwari scarf in orange (with the blue which takes my tally of Marwari scarves to 3 now...just love that design!!).

During much of my senior year I considered advertising or retail management to be my idea of a dream job, and then I started talking to people in both professions, and they didn't have a lot of nice things to say. LOL

At least marketing and advertising are a touch above PR on the BS meter. VBEG

Don't blame you a bit, and it's the reason I got out of advertising after ten years as well!

I stopped by the Atlanta Hermes tonight, and intially my SA said that she hadn't heard anything about a price increase this summer. I told her that I really wanted to find my Birkin before the end of July, and she agreed to call her friend at the SF store to check and see if they had what I wanted, which they didn't, of course! During the course of her conversation with SF, she asked about the increase and was told that the manager had told the staff today that the August increase would be 5%, and that the "normal" February increase would be around 6-8%. Darn!

This sounds credible. While this certainly not favorable news, this price increase is not materially more than the Feb. 07 increase of 12-15%

You investment banker - financial advisor types out there would probably say...."You have to factor in the 'time value of bag' - the value of buying a birkin in Sept 07 rather than March 08 - six months of the use of the bag - the value associated with that is on our excel spreadsheet"

I know, I am making one of my ridiculous jokes. I am trying to have a sense of humor about this.

LOL as I was there yesterday, too.

Okay, I was there around 4:30 p.m. - how about you? One of these days, we're bound to run into one another, as we seem to hang around Hermes more than just a bit.:p In the future, I'll be sure to ask anyone "loitering" in H. is she's Ammietwist from tpf. The staff will probably call over that nice security guard, and I'll be questioned in the back office!

I was there to pick up the Silkypop in the black Cheval du Marwari pattern. I'd resisted for a long time, but I'm glad I finally gave into the urge, as it makes a cute summer bag and a good alternative to lugging around the B. or wearing a yard of silk around one's neck in this absolutely horrendous Atlanta heat - high 90's today, ladies. It's definitely not Hermes weather unfortunately.

Sorry to get off track here, but you know how it is . . .

I went into Bond Street H today and actually spoke to my SA and there's definitely going to be an increase in the UK in August.

She said it's to bring the UK in line with the rest of Europe because the UK is so much cheaper than the rest of Europe.

She also believes after this increase and the regular annual one in January a 35 Birkin is going to be around £5,000 ($10,000) next year.......yipes!!

To compensate for the increases and to get something on my want list I bought a clic-clac.....LOL!

One positive aspect of all this: Gives me more incentive to go and buy everything that I know I want...NOW instead of ...oh, whenever. Tough on the finances, but in the long run, we will be much better off! Yes, I have been drinking tonight...:p

This IS very close to OUR current price right now. And with next year's price increase, our 35cm Birkins will still be more expensive here. So you're luckier, in that sense.
