Price Increase 2025

I wonder whether resellers will keep their prices under control as they won’t seem as crazy as they did at twice the price of H.
There are plenty of bags available on resale, and many are not moving. I noticed that for brand new bags there was a slight increase on resale prices when prices increased in stores, but if a person is only getting normal leather bags and not much interested in products (or have enough of them), it doesn’t make much sense buying in store. I think many people will buy more resale when prices rise in stores.

Yes I know that denim jacket!! I also said no to that one even though it was super cute. my SA ordered it anyways because he says he has another client in mind who might want it LOL. I made it very clear, it's not going to be me!

P.S. I did ask about that 10% increase today and he said they had not heard anything from corporate yet. (I guess YET being the operative word!)
My SA joked that the phone had been ringing off the hook since the news article was published and that rush purchases before the increase will likely “save” the entire sales quarter. They didn’t seem too worried about the probable dearth of sales in May though…

I think reseller prices may eventually go down for regular QB bc there will be people who need funds selling their bags on the secondary market. Of course, that depends on the economy too. I scooped up some amazing box and barenia B30/K28 deals during covid SIP.

It’s interesting to me that Hermes is seemingly unworried. A normal price increase year to year is barely perceptible to me. A random 30% increase that is just going to a government? Super perceptible. That’s enough to stop me from shopping and I feel like I’m fairly price insulated.

30% on import value not retail (re tariffs , though no ones explained whether that’s wholesale price or not). I think it’s the uncertainty of the economy today and what may come in the future, and not solely based on whether one is in fact price insulated. . .imo . :) I’ve never been one to try to get in before a price increase. To me, unless you were count8ng on buying a specific item anyway, it’s rushing too much.

A question for someone who understands tariff increases (more than I do lol)

The tariff of 10 or 20% is on import value, not retail price? Is import value manufacturing price? I’m saddened but believe that Hermes mark up percentages will be more likely based on retail.
Correct, it is on import value which is the cost to manufacture the item (inclusive of materials and labor).

If it costs $5K to make a bag, which retails for $10K - if H was just trying to break even on a 10% incremental tariff, then they would only increase the retail price by $500. In this example, that would mean a 5% increase to $10,500.

Thank you for explaining this to me :)

I really hope you are right. Not doubting you - just worried it will be an excuse for higher prices that never go down.

Well that doesn’t mean that Hermes and other luxury brands won’t use this as pretext to raise prices significantly higher than that … otherwise Dumas wouldn’t have needed to make such a deliberate warning lol

None of these brands care; as long as they keep selling, the more money they can get, the better. They are not having significant decreases to be worried. However, some started laying off people, they are postponing projects (as sustainability), store openings.

As long as H keeps releasing lots of bags for sale, they will be fine, no matter the price. They can say “no bags”, “less bags this year” and continue with the artificial scarcity marketing stunt, but everyone knows that is major BS since at least half of their revenues come from bag sales and they always have rooms full of bags…
