The more I hear about these crazy price increases the more I feel I am done with certain items.
I don't think I am going to buy anymore pocket squares and no more leather jewelry. And I really mean it.
The difference in how much they increase prices for the more successful items, compared to how little they do it for less successful ones makes me even more nervous (ex, pocket squares vs 90cm)
Those who know me also know how much I appreciate H quality and craftmanship, but come on, these prices for a little piece of leather and a plated piece of metal (mind you, plated, not solid something) are just ridiculous!!!
I just have a couple of bracelets and I would have liked more, but who cares, I would really feel like if I were being taken advantage of, if I bought a CDC at this price! And on top of that they are replacing Porosus Crocodile with alligator?! Do they think we are stupid and we don't notice the difference?
Just ridiculous.
Not to talk about this little piece of silk called pocket square which retailed for much much less just a couple or three years ago.
I am not buying certain items anymore, and I wouldn't have bought them in first place if they had these price tags a few years ago.
I am not buying anymore because I feel I get more pleasure for my money when it is goes into something else (did I mention I just bought a super classic Cartier pendant that gives me lots of satisfaction?).
I also won't be buying anymore because I know that H doesn't give anything about our rants here unless we stop buying. DECREASE IN SALES IS THE ONLY VOICE A RETAILER HEARS.
There is also another point that we may take into account: there is an incredible amount of newly rich people.
All these people unfortunately couldn't afford Hermès until a very few years ago, and their hunger for luxury items is so big that nothing will stop them. Not even the craziest price increase that one could imagine.
Further more, I would say that on the contrary, being able to buy an item at a price that older customers refuse because they consider it too high, brings to the new customers a little feeling that makes them feel even more important, like if they were a little bit superior. There surely is a little bit of a "I can afford what you can't afford anymore" feeling, on top of legitimately wanting a share of some pleasures in life that have never been available before.
I know some will probably consider what I am saying to be not "politically correct", but, no offense, I am myself a good mix of different cultures so I don't mean to sound narrow minded. I am just trying to analyze the market, and believe me, my family somehow is in the business, I know what I am saying.
