Same thing happened to me when I bought my Speedy at the LV boutique in the Neiman Marcus in Tysons Corner.

I was all ready to pay with my bank card, and the dude tells me "Nope. Only cash, AMEX or NM charge". But he did tell me I could go to the concierge desk in the mall and get 2 Amex gift cards for the price of my bag and then buy them. That's what I ended up doing, but I definitely DO agree that NM has a stupid policy regarding payment. Although I do have an Amex now, I only use that for emergencies.

I am puzzled about their not taking your debit card just because it has a Visa logo. Using debit is basically the same as writing a check. The money is gone immediately from your account, too. To me, it's just two different ways of basically doing the same thing.

How odd. And how stupid of NM.

Yup: Visa logo. Nevermind that it was "cash", it said Visa.

How true and how true!

I'm just wondering how long it will take for the word to get out. There was actually an article in one of the online newspapers about the store opening and it made a point to specify that they ONLY take those three payment methods. I reckon if there are enough people like me walking out of the store over this that they'll either change their policy or the doors will shut. There may be tons of uber rich in Charlotte, but not enough to keep the doors of that place open if enough people "regular" folks boycott.

geez im waiting for hermes to open in south park. but what little botiques did NM have?

I wonder if Hermes will be taking Visa! I HAVE to go in the store when it opens and check! :roflmfao:

I only had time to look at the MJ and Prada boutiques. I was on a limited time schedule, but the credit card snafu sent me walking out sooner than I expected. I did see Fendi and Chole bags, but that was pretty much all I noticed. Drat, I even missed the Gucci boutique. I do plan to go back to the store though, but only for visual/3-D references for things I'll be buying elsewhere.

Hermes does take Visa. The only idiots that don't take Visa/MC is NM. The few items I've bought at NM, I've had to go to the concierge and get Amex giftcards which cost 1.50 per card and you can only put 500 bucks on a card! Some people would say, 1.50 big deal. But come on, that's 3 bucks extra in my pocket. So I generally don't buy from NM, I buy from the boutiques and Saks and Nordies.

prada pshyco: did they have a chanel?

I'm not a Chanel shopper and I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the Chanel boutique was the next one after the Prada boutique. Needless to say I got as far as the Prada boutique and stopped in my tracks! There was another right next to Prada and I want to say it was Chanel because I would have noticed if it were Gucci.

Thanks for the info, Prada. The mall sounds worth a trip. Maybe I can get my sister to go with (she lives in SC) for a little getaway.

OT, but I love the dog in the photo by your name. What breed is he or she?

Maybe NM & Costco have the same agreement with amex....but at least costco you can use a debit card. There must be some contract(?) since they charge the merchant more than visa or mc does. Our NM may not have made it up here due to the cc limitation. Amex is sooo unpopular here and grocery stores don't even take amex, unlike cali. I still carry amex, so I was frustrated that I could hardly use it locally after moving north until I joined costco, so I switch over to THEIR amex card to get the 2-3 percent cashback bonus. LOL..but visa debit card has become my primary now.
