Have a wonderful time today and be sure to post pictures of what you come back with.
I'm going to visit Neiman's tomorrow and look for a new paddy!

The first time I went into a N-M and tried to purchase something with cash, they acted like it was such a chore to make change.

I'm in NC, too, and thinking about getting up to Charlotte to explore that mall.

What part of the state are you in? Obviously I'm in the Charlotte region!

Southpark is a great mall!!! I love all the little boutique type stores it has. Be sure to check out Bob Ellis Shoes. It's like a mini-NM with shoes and bags only. Ask for Komavi, he's a doll! And Bob Ellis DOES take Visa. :p

Prada, thanks for the scoop! We're getting an NM here in the Seattle 'burbs (they tore down an old strip mall with a landmark Dairy Queen and now there's a huge hole in the ground)...

I've had an NM card for years yet have never been in one of their stores! I'm excited about the store but a lil' pissed that now when I order online I have to pay sales tax (8.8%) .

I don't get how the catalogue is run one way and the stores another as far as payment methods go. Weird :s .

OH Prada~ I'm so sad to hear about this! I would have never assumed they didn't take Visa, etc.:wtf: What bag were you going to buy?:graucho: Maybe it wasn't meant to be~ you'll probably find one on sale when you're not expecting it!!!!

My dad is having a house built in Ashville,NC! I'll have to tell him about that mall.

What bag were you going to buy?:graucho:

Take a wild guess? Yep: chapter 69,459 of The Perils Of Prada was written today! I think Marc Jacobs' ghost is following me to ensure I only buy MJ bags! :roflmfao:

I did find out a little while ago that the Broadway Prada store has the same bag in stock. Now that I've had one in my hands, I might give them another shot.

Is he moving there to work or retire? Lots of retirees in Asheville. Lots of "earthmother, new age hippie" types there, too. Asheville is lovely. In the mountains enough to have the mountain type climate but not so high that you have to deal with an inordinate amount of snow. It's getting a bit overgrown and crowded for my tastes, but still a great place.

He lives in Florida and is building a second home in Ashville. It was kind of a decision made to avoid the hurricane season in Florida! LOL He's semi retired~he still works from home.

I totally agree with you Prada P. I was totally scandalized when I first tried to shop at NM and they wouldn't take my money. I only browse there, never buy.

The one in SF must be losing a ton of business thanks to this ridiculous, outdated policy. There is a Saks literally a block down the street, not to mention just about every designer boutique in existence mere steps away. Their not accepting a variety of payment options is just elitism. And WHY AmEx?? I don't get it.

The only Neimans that takes Visa is the one in Las Vegas. But the flip side to this is that you can take something back without a reciept, and get cash back. I am assuming they do this because they know they have gotten paid...

Prada, I live in Southport, down by Wilmington. It would be a drive to Charlotte (NC is such a big state), but I enjoy window shopping as much as actually buying stuff, so it would be fun.

My son and his wife were just in Charlotte, thinking about relocating from the NoVa/DC area. First they looked around the Raleigh/Durham area but it just didn't grab them. They really liked the Charlotte area. They have friends at Lake Norman, but they like a more urban neighborhood environment.

On the original thread topic--how disappointing for you to be ready to buy and N-M's ridiculous policies turned you away. I will never understand the retail industry.

Well, you kow how sometimes a Credit Card company will send you checks to use? Would those apply? I usually throw mine away but in a cse like this...

Does this also apply to NM Online? I was seriously thing of putting a new Kooba order in but not if this is the case. There are many other sites and online boutiques that will take my inferior Visa or Mastercard.

Those courtesy checks are treated like cash advance by your credit card company: high interest rate (usually over 20%) and a percentage of the amount as an upfront fee. I dont' want ANY handbag that badly!

Yes, NM does take Visa/MC online. I asked the corporate rep about it and as I said above, she said that the catalog and online NM are different divisions of NM and they chose to "allow" customers placing those orders to use other cards. This why it blew my mind! I've ordered from NM online before and used that same Visa I had in my hand in the store yesterday.

It's crazy and they are only shooting themselves in the foot!!

I LOVE the Southport area!! I used to rent houses for a week on Long Beach off season years ago and just loved it!! Nothing but fishermen and old folks. Great place to live!! I also lived in Wilmington in the 60's. It broke my heart when my dad was transfered AGAIN and we had to move to Sumter, SC. YETCH! Hated that place!

Nice to meet a fellow Tarheel!

It's a frumpy, outdated policy IMO. Geez, did they sign a 50-year exclusive agreement with Amex or something? Too funny about being "allowed" to use other cards online. Oh boy, how generous of you, NM online!

This won't change my NM online shopping habits, but I'll be very interested to see what the mood/vibe is like once our local store opens.
