I am REALLY starting to wonder if people who are buying these things TRULY understand what LUXURY means….

There was a time when people CARED that their shoes were made in Italy…
That their watches were made in Switzerland….
that their crystal was made in Austria…
Their Silk, from Hong Kong….

That is what true luxury used to be… WHERE it was made was VERY important….
the HISTORY of these items….

If I am paying UPWARDS of $1000 for a handbag, I want to know that
the person who made that bag, is being paid well….
that this person is being treated fairly…. NOT having to live at the factory where they make
these items… I do care about that…
I want to know that they have a good life…

Heck, some people care MORE chickens being free-range, than if the
people making our handbags are FREE-RANGE….

You truly are a woman after my own heart.....I completely agree regards wanting to buy luxury goods with an honest label - Made in Italy really meaning made in Italy and so on...
I am a virgin luxury bag buyer only having a few yummy luxury bags to my name (so far)...but the desire and collection is growing steadily - as soon as I have saved enough...I'm off to buy that next bag....just so we're on the same page...
I really do need some advice and support here.... I have purchased several Mulberry bags - one has a 'made in England' tag the other a 'made in turkey' tag! Very disappointed about the made in turkey tag - I thought Mulberry was supposed to be quintessentially British, but clearly not. Hey ho!
Well....I was literally just about to push the 'buy' button on my first ever Prada BR5128_2BBE_F0002 or a BN2792_2BBE_F0002 (preferred the Tote BR5128 however, couldn't quite decide as I wanted a bag that would fit on my shoulder and didn't know if this would or not) - purchasing from Prada.com.
And now.....well....I am not even sure if I should EVER buy a Prada bag at all.
Can I please ask for some advice from the veterans among you?
Should I buy Prada?
If 'yes' ....which bag will fit over my arm?
If 'no' ...recommendations?
I have £££ burning a hole in my purse.....
xx :search:

Prada used to be one of my favorites but not so much the last couple years. Probably because their bags are made by 8 year old chinese girls? So maybe we will see Prada bags at Walmart soon!

I buy my Prada Pre-Loved, and I like the bags that are 8 years old
and older…. I am just not so sure I would take that risk buying a NEW Prada on line and getting one made in China…

You can find a LOT of great older Prada bags on some of the consignment
sites…
you just have to have them Authenticated …. I know older Prada…
so, I don't have issues with that… the ladies here are wonderful at helping
with authentications….

If you have the money, I would go with Chanel…
But, I have heard they are having quality issues as well…. :(

I have bought so many bags that I said to myself…
"Oh, if I get this bag, it will be perfect.."

I get the bag, and it does not fit well on my arm or shoulder
or, it just doesn't feel right….

If you live near London, I would go and do some recon…
Go and map out all the Luxury Boutiques… Go and try the bags on…

I LOVE going out and doing that…
Also, there may be styles that you can't get online… :smile1:

I am on a Louis Vuitton kick at the moment…

I have a lovely Lamb Skin Gaufre bag…
Every time I travel, it rains like crazy…
I got sick of carrying my expensive handbags in plastic
shopping bags….
So, I am buying more Louis Vuitton these days….

I still LOVE older Prada… I LOVE the Nylon bags..

Ladies, I bought my first prada bag earlier this month only to find a flimsy cloth tag that says "Made in China" tucked inside the beautiful saffiano leather tote... THE HORROR!

Being spent that amount of money I do not give a damm what the company claims "good quality" in CHINA. It costs me over 2K and I can not imagine their corporate is laughing at me when they are using cheap labor to make even more profit out of their customers. I do not think their decision to use chinese labor will benefit cosumers. Ever.

I returned the bag. I'm probably never going to own a prada bag and the thought doesnt bother me. I can live without it. At least LV and Chanel are made in france.

********* Burberry, Mulberry, Coach, Marc Jacobs, D&G are also made in china! :faint:

It would be easier to compile a list of who is not made in China. It is quite short these days. I also find many bags with premium prices do not feel much nicer or more luxurious than the mid-range contemporary ones.

GOOD for YOU!!! :flowers:

I am serious… I am forever dumbfounded when somebody buys a
Prada and finds it is made in China and they say they don't care where it is made…
I find it insulting that they did this in such a manner as to TRICK consumers…
This I find very unsavory….

If MORE women would step up and say ENOUGH!!! .. these designers would
possibly get back to making LUXURY bags made in Europe for these outrageous prices..

Yes. My thoughts as well. I would have returned it as well and been very disappointed to spend that much on a prada from China.

I checked through my Mulberry's and a couple were made in England and 1 in Turkey.

I just want to buy a really well made bag, that is being made in the country that it is supposed to be made in, by skilled craftsmen/women who are artisans and have probably had a long relationship with the brand that they are working with. Mulberry - England, Chanel - France, Prada - Italy ....for goodness sake!

I do not want to buy a bag that has caused suffering and hardship to it's maker - also knowing that the bags designers or corporate brand are charlatans, liars or thief's.....it just seems that it is all about greed - as if they aren't already getting enough of our HARD earned cash.

Perhaps I should just buy a few more 'Made in England' Mulberry's and also save for a Chanel Classic Flap Caviar or Chanel Tote....

I am so sad - perhaps Prada are on the way out...:shucks:

There are definitely still Prada bags made in Italy (the bag I bought last year was made in Italy - my SA pulled out the 'Made In' tag to show me)... I do think Prada has quality issues (not in all models, but enough for people to take notice), and the fact that they have bags made in China now being sold for their high prices has also been a turn-off to many. Prada is in trouble in terms of sales (if news releases about this can be trusted) so they do need to rehaul their strategy (I think there was also a Purse Blog article on this some time back)... I am still hoping for a possible turnaround, and if not - Prada has many beautiful older bags/models available in the secondary market. :smile1:

Like I've been reading from other sources, Prada would make their bags in China and send them to Europe to do their "finishing touches". perhaps thats why they can put a tag thats other than "made in china"? I don't know.

Maybe... some really do have tags that say "Made in China" though, while others say "Made in Italy", or wherever. The practice you mentioned isn't just supposedly done by Prada though... some other fashion houses that outsource their work have also been accused of that.

Either way, it is disheartening.
