Review of my experience since I found a lot of helpful info from this thread:
I went to Gangnam intending to do SMILE, DES, and rhinoplasty. I will only talk about DES and rhino here, but happy to share about my SMILE experience too.
I did online consultations with Banobagi, MIND, JK, JW, ME Clinic, Braun, HANABI, Girin, ILAC, Machimpyo, and Marble for rhino and DES. I also did The Plus and 1st button for rhino only, and Pop and Yellow for DES. Eventually I narrowed down to Yellow for in person consult for DES, and The Plus and ILAC for rhino. I found Kowon last minute, which was recommended more by locals, and I liked their BA photos because the doctor still has a relatively natural aesthetic which I wanted.
Please note that for clinics that cater more to locals you will need to bring your own translator. I brought Kayla from seoulmedibuddy, and she was a great help!
In person consultations:
Yellow: Director met with me and was very patient in showing me different eye folds that would suit me, and explained that certain folds would not look good or cause sausage eyes. They had a book of BA photos for me to look through and a Chinese translator in house but no English.
ILAC: They require a deposit typically but I think they forgot to ask for one from me because I am a foreigner and booked the consult so far in advance. I met with Dr. Ju and he was very detailed and thorough in answering my questions. The translator was sufficient but I could tell some things were lost in translation. Dr. Ju did insist on using a silicone implant to raise my bridge height, which wasn't something I had been concerned about before. He wanted to go with 3mm minimum, and helped me try on various heights so that I could pick one that I was most comfortable with. I also asked about using donor rib cartilage and he was pretty set on recommending a silicone implant, but I did not want any artificial materials to be implanted so I ended up not choosing ILAC because of this. He did spend a while drawing angles on my front and side profiles to show my current proportions and how they could be corrected, since I had a deviated septum and asymmetry. He also pointed out areas that caused functional issues for me that he would correct. Although I did not pick ILAC this was a very educational consult both for aesthetic and function.
The Plus: They also required a deposit and charged a consult fee. I was happy to pay the consult fee but negotiated out of the deposit. Dr. Jeong was also detailed in looking over my anatomy and pointed out new things I hadn't seen during the first consult in my CT. The vibe was just a bit off for me and I felt like my opinion wasn't as valued so did not go with The Plus.
Kowon:
This consult was scheduled last minute and there wasn't much of an online consult. The consultant was very professional and flexible working with me, which I appreciated a lot especially since I had to bring my own translator and things wouldn't go as smoothly. Once I met with Dr. Kim, I immediately knew I would select Kowon because of his attitude towards patients and I could tell he would listen to what I wanted with my nose. I asked for a recommendation between silicone vs donor vs my own cartilage, and he refused to provide one saying that it was entirely up to what I was comfortable with but answered my questions on the pros and cons of each, especially my concerns about warping and infection. He also pointed out that my nose widens alot when I smile, and that he would address that by cutting the muscles to reduce that. I also showed him an inspo pic of a nose that was extremely natural looking and talked about concerns on not making it too sharp, and keep nostrils looking soft. He said with my anatomy it was not possible to make it look sharp, so I don't have to be worried about that. Since my nose has a lot of asymmetry, the work done on either side would be different and so it would have uneven swelling during recovery. Both Dr. Kim and the consultant reiterated that to make sure I understood.
Disclaimer: All the rhino consults offered discounts for reviews during price negotiation, but they are pretty small. I did receive a discount for writing this review, but all opinions are my own. ve
Pricing: ILAC < Kowon < The Plus
I did see others were able to get much cheaper pricing and am not sure if it's because I received foreigner pricing, but I did need to have a lot more done to my nose because of functional issues and asymmetry. I used donor rib cartilage and got bulbous tip correction and alar reduction as well.
Post-op:
Kowon had a follow up 1 day after, then 3 days after to do de-swelling treatments. I had my cast removed a week after and am still experiencing the uneven swelling they mentioned, so I am trying to hold back on making any judgement on the outcome. Good thing they warned me haha but it is still mentally tough especially after just going through all of that. Will follow up after 3 weeks when swelling should go down much more!
