placing a birkin order

I was recently placed on a waiting list for my first Birkin and specified exactly what I wanted. The SA told me the wait was a year, but that I would definitely receive my handbag. After reading this thread, I am more confused than ever. Should I try my luck at another H store, or should I rely on this SA?

Thank you! I'm just a little worried because I do not have an established relationship with this SA. I simply called, placed myself on the waiting list and planned to fly to this boutique when my Birkin arrived.

^^Thank you! I can't tell you how worried I was. I'm normally the most impatient person in the world but, in this case, I'm more than willing to wait so long as I know it's coming in the end!

It seems a bit different here. My SA said that she goes on 2 buying trips a year and puts in her order. Once her orders are confirmed, then you can go in and put your name down for a bag that is already confirmed. She's says you're only allowed one a year though. So you kind of have to pick from what she had bought already. Is this the same as a podium?

Each buying trip (one in Feb and one in July) comprises of podium orders as well as special orders.

Alot of buyers, buy with certain customers in mind, that's why they "take orders" from their good customers, before they leave for each buying trip in Paris. This is a win-win situation because the store knows with great assurance that these bags will sell, as the bags are bought with specific customers in mind.

From your description, that you can only declare your interest in a bag that she has already ordered, it is also not incorrect.

Thanks for the information MrsS, instead of shopping H all over, I shall try to buy all my accessories from my local H-store. Does it have to be one particular SA though as I always give my business to the first one who greets me?

Hi medusa!
Sticking to one SA is always a good thing. ;) Alot of members have reported the benefit of staying loyal to one SA.

^^At my store there seems to be a code such that if a regular customer comes through the door, her/his usual SA is discreetly called to come assist. This way, it's almost impossible to NOT be loyal -- unless you visit the store on your SA's day off.

It's so funny, isn't it? I like to throw them by talking to someone else - it gets them all flustered!! LOL!!

Heh! I do the same thing! :p

Though one time, when I brought DH for a pre-sale event complete with champagne and such, he said he thought it was "scary" that all the SAs know who I am and came over to say hello. According to him, THAT can't be a good thing! :graucho: Well, lucky for me, he has never looked at our credit card statement...

Anyway, I get a little confused as to how my store does SOs and POs so I've just basically told my SA what I want and she keeps a list. If anything on my list or something "interesting" shows up, I get a call. I do know I have a couple of croc SOs (orders that I filled out) that I don't whether it has been approved or not.... we'll see....

Thanks Mrs.s. That clears things up. My SA just put me down for an etoupe JPG birkin that was outstanding from her spring order. So it must be from her Feb podium order. She said it should arrive soon.

My Store Director was the first to offer me assistance. All of the other SA's in the store joined in. I later found out (VERY much to my surprise) that the Store Director owned the store!!!!! All of the staff have seemed like a "family" and I have not noticed any competition for clients when I have observed people enter the store. They all are welcoming and I was not well dressed the first time I walked in.(jeans and a sigrid olson bag)
