placing a birkin order

That's not how it works with my SA's. With my SA's I CAN tell them what I want and they put me down on the wishlist just for that. Example: I tell my SA I want a chocolate birkin with gold hardware, size 30cm. If other bags come in that they think I might like that don't meet those specs, they still call.

Guess it's different at different places. I just specify exactly what I want and get it exactly that way in a matter of time.

I don't mean to cause further confusion, but there's 2 kinds of orders: special and podium. And some SAs won't even talk to you about waitlists. Podium orders are done twice a year, only at specific times, and though you can tell your SA what bag (usually Birkin or Kelly), leather, hardware, size, and color you want, it's no guarantee. Some SAs are nice enough to give you up to 3 choices. Of course, they'll try your choices in order. So many less of us can actually place SPECIAL orders, which really are special. These are done at any random time throughout the year. Each store is allowed these in VERY limited quantities, so they tend to offer them only to customers they really like or who spend tons of $. You can ask for absolutely anything you want in a special order. For example, I read in US "Harper's Bazaar" that one of the Lauder sisters ordered a Birkin with special baby bottle holsters for the other sister. I also heard of another customer in one of the stores I visit that wanted an alligator Post-It holder. That design had to be done from scratch and took years!

rogicoco, are you a regular shopper at your H store? How would you describe your relationship with your SA? Are you only interested in the Birkin? What other H merchandise have you purchased so far?

I bought an h belt,a COLLIER DE CHIEN belt, two dogon wallets, scarves, gloves, pendant with a chain and a chartreuse birkin by accident from a wall street store. the sa is very nice. she keeps telling me to call her everyday or to come over. she said they are not allowed to call when something comes in or hold anything if something does come. . the sa from wall street told me the same thing. my friend is now looking for a kelly and same thing was told to her. we are there everyday after work. there should be one more shippment coming in and then a break till mid september.i can't complain about the sa because she has been very informative. i really do believe that she follows the rules of the store. that is why i wanted to know how others have such success placing the order.

That\'s good information. I always knew about SOs and thought PO was about the same thing. Guess not. Thanks for sharing!

Having a great SA is one thing, the other is that they need to know you ie. who you are. My brother (who lives in Paris) says that there is a distinction between just any tourist who comes into the store, and say, a mature Parisian couple who are professionals in the city.

The SA's I deal with refer to SO's and podium orders the same way. When my SA asked what I wanted, she specifically termed it a special order that would be placed at podium. I could get anything I wanted, I just chose to go simple for my first special order. Especially since I hadn't truly decided at that point that I really wanted anything more special done to it.

^ Mine's the same. When we are offered orders at the podium, we can pretty much ask for anything we like (Birkins with extra pockets, Himalayas in rose shocking and chartreuse...he, he, he...) but it won't necessarily be accepted. These are considered Special Orders at my store. Podium orders would be "regular" type bags that you can request, and are ordered especially for you, but are the regular designs and leathers that are on offer. We also have bags that the store order in at the podium for their own stock - if I am after something fairly common - say, a black boxcalf Kelly, I will ask my SA if they have any coming, and to put my name against that bag, so when it arrives in, they give me a call to come and take a look.....but these are just bags that the store have ordered for their inventory.

That's how it works at my store, but it really does differ from place to place. I know in Hawaii they don't allow SO's or PO's at all.

Yeah, that's what I meant. The POs are the "regular" bags, and the SOs are the more unusual, like choosing your own fabric and such.

It seems a bit different here. My SA said that she goes on 2 buying trips a year and puts in her order. Once her orders are confirmed, then you can go in and put your name down for a bag that is already confirmed. She's says you're only allowed one a year though. So you kind of have to pick from what she had bought already. Is this the same as a podium?
