I did not have my ears pierced with the gun type piercer. When my daughter wanted her ears pierced, her pediatrician said to go to the mall where they do it with the gun. Long story short, they pierced HER ears, and I fainted (seriously). Anyway, her ears closed up and she wanted them done again but I was afraid of scar tissue etc so we went to a plastic surgeon. When i heard the doctor tell her: “ok I’m going to use novaCaine to numb your ears”, I said “novaCaine? You’re using novaCaine? I want my ears done too then!” And that’s how I ended up with pierced ears!
My mom is the only person I know who still never got her ears pierced. Perhaps if this had ever been an option, she would!

I have this problem as well. I also had my ears pierced with a sterile gun and despite not having any problems otherwise, I cannot wear earrings from these French brands - Cartier, VCA, Hermes and Chanel. Waiting for my VCA SA to see if she can find thinner, longer posts. If she succeeds, I am in trouble.
My wife had the same issue wearing earrings with thicker posts. She went to a body piercing salon and had her holes stretched to the next larger size, but still a very small hole. She wore bead rings for about 6 months to complete the stretch. No problem with Cartier and the like after that.

I've been reading this thread, and the related one (link below) with interest, as I've been pondering a few pairs of VCA earrings. Apparently I may also have puny ear holes! Mine were pierced by my pediatrician when I was 10, and as he used a gun type instrument, I assume mine are some sort of standard size hole. :shrugs: Up until recent years, I had no trouble whatsoever. But then I found I was unable to wear Hermes horn earrings (they use a very thick, surgical steel posts) and also found I could not wear my platinum/diamond Tiffany Circlet earrings (with thick, platinum posts). Both were so painful! I gave away the Hermes earrings, and had my local jeweler turn my Circlet stud earrings into drop earrings. I'd not heard anyone else talk about this issue, so I appreciate hearing about it here!

I'd rather deal with VCA directly, so will need to order online. Can anyone comment on the thickness of the mini Frivole post vs the small Frivole post? I'm thinking I'd need a thinner post on whatever I order!

Here's a link to the other thread regarding earring post woes!
Try using a sea salt spray H2Ocean to help your ears stay healthy when wearing thicker posts. I had my ears pierced by the mall when I was 40 (I had done it 2x before in my life but both times they infected and closed up.). Only using the sea salt spray and wearing platinum for 4 years could help me heal up this final time. My piercing was soooooo tiny but I eventually got used to wearing my sweet pave alhambra studs 24/7 and my ears are fine now.

EpiFanatic, thank you for sharing, I'd not heard of this before! I'd only ever experienced this with two pairs of earrings. And since then have just avoided thick posts as I was so miserable wearing! When I had my Tiffany post earrings converted to drop earrings, I even asked my jeweler for the orginal posts back, so I'd have a physical reference as to what felt too thick. Years back I also realized I can only wear high quality sterling silver, 18k gold, or platinum, as I think I have a nickel allergy, and avoid it!

I have had a lot of problems with my right ear piercing. It’s so sensitive to all metals. No thick posts for me! I always wanted the sweet Alhambra—wondering if the posts are already made thinner or if I would need to adjust them. They are on my wish list. Just wondering if I can tolerate them.

I don’t think they have made it thinner, it’s all the same thickness, so you will likely need it to be adjusted unfortunately

Did you make the posts of your sweet earrings thinner? If so are you happy with the way they turned out?
I have only Vintage size for the Alhambras and the Frivoles are in large size. I was very happy with the change. With the extra space I add those plastic securing bits as an extra precaution (since I worry with the mask being taken off and put on).

Great! That’s good to hear. And good idea to secure them with the masks. My mom lost an earring of hers that way.

By the way, the service to fix earrings is free, even after the 90 days. I know because I was not charged.
They charged me. They said it's only free before 90 days of purchase date. They said switching the post to a different hole was free but changing it to a longer post was a $200 charge. Maybe your SA "hooked you up" with a freebie. Sadly, I had to pay =(

I had my posts replaced with thinner ones in addition to clips loosened well over 3 months after purchase, and it was free. Plus... it says so on the U.S. website. I pasted the text here. When I got my earrings, I was told they could adjust anytime I needed, and my SA emphasized VCA is about perfect fit as one size does not fit all for jewelry. Here it is in case you need other adjustments. It might be a country by country policy.
