Excited to share before & after photos of a 1987 Vache Natural 35 Kelly I've been working on. The first photo shows how it looked when it arrived a few days ago, and the second shows how wonderfully vache responds to some care. In spite of my posting in this thread, I actually think this bag is PERFECT-- it's just not pristine! There is something magical about the glow of the Vache, and the marks and spots that remain look right at home on this Kelly. I'm much more taken with this bag than with any of the bags I own that are in much newer condition. :heart:

Beautiful results! What did you use on her?

I have been wanting this style of vintage Hermes for almost 3 years it finally came true at bargain. Market bag from 1990 in Gold Courchevel. I am planning on wearing this for a little while and than send it for H spa . Since I got it for a bargain it came with some small loose/frayed threads where the stitching begins in the left side of the strap due to age/wear. Nonetheless I love the craftsmanship and luxurious subtle look of vintage Hermes bags am hooked!!

One of my first posts on the forum - this is my all time favorite thread! Sharing my vintage 1960s toile and midnight blue Kelly. Thinking of sending her to the H spa for a little TLC, but I’m unsure whether they would be able to refresh her toile or not.
Beautiful! For 1960s, the toile looks quite remarkable, no visible yellowing or stains. She’s gorgeous, thanks for the eye candy...

Thank you! Very excited to have found her to add to my humble little vintage Kelly collection! I just sent a 1980s ostrich cognac Kelly off to the H spa (the handle was starting to lift off from the top of the flap - so definitely needed some more intensive help). Excited to see the H team work their magic in the coming months on that bag!

And we hope you post your lady bird here once she’s back from spa.

Wow so what was it called back then? (Assuming the kelly name is after grace kelly?)

The style dates back to the 1930s and was usually called 'sac a main de voyage a courroies pour dame;
sometimes shortened to 'sac a main de voyage'. In the 50s 'sac haut fermeture a courroie', referring to the distinctive strap fastening near the top of the bag. It seems the term 'haut a courroies' was used as far back as the end of the nineteenth century to describe the security/closure system of a large travel bag.
Also in the 1950s, what we now call the HAC or 'Haut a courroies' was called Grand sac haut a courroies' and the adjective 'grand' has since been dropped.

please excuse the lack of grave accents
