Gack!!

TOO HARD!!

But, in truth, I guess it depends. The Chloé in the lead photo is my new obsession right now, but honestly, if I had to.....:confused1: I dont know. :panic:

Where do you stand on this issue?

Just for fun, lets see your choices. The 4 $500 bags you would throw the $2000 bag out of bed for, the $2000 bag that you wouldn't trade for even FOUR bags.

Do you ever catch yourself thinking a quality $500 handbag is really a good deal? I remember when $350 bought you a pretty cool contemporary bag, but those days are long gone. I don't want quantity, I want great bags I will love for a long time. So I'd take a few fantastic ones. For most of us, handbags are our collections, our art..... I am losing the love for ridiculous prices-Hermes and Chanel..... at some point it just doesn't make sense. Nor do I want the everywhere bag-the Michael Kors, some of the LV.

I own one premier designer handbag (original price 1.350,-€, sale 960,-€), which was for a long time my HG, that I finally bought as I got the funds for it. The rest of my bags range between 150,- and 500,-€. I like them all, but I do use my "cheaper" bags much more often. They are aging very gracefully and I don't think, that they are lesser quality than the premier designer bag, as they are made in the EU from nice leathers (for example vegetably tanned and refined natural leather) with nice designs you don't see everywhere. They just don't have a big name stamped on them.

So, as I do have my HG already, I would buy four bags for 500,-. But I can understand everybody who would spend the whole money on one bag.

Same here, Ludmilla!
I have vintage designer bags which I bought a long time ago when no one was interested...The most expensive one cost me 1200 euros ( Hermès Brown Kelly), the cheapest .....100 euros( Hermès white Kelly).
Of course these are from the 50's and the 70's but they are still in wonderful condition.
Like you, I have noticed that I much prefer to use my cheaper bags.
More practical and worry free...:smile1::smile1:
Still......I can't help looking for vintage.....

Totally with the 4 x $500 camp! I have one high end bag I bought new 3 yrs ago, paid a hideous sum of money and now it's still sitting in my closet, waiting to get some action. Another bag of the same brand I got for a crazy price pre-loved and I love it to bits, use it regularly and it has earned its status as my go-to adventure bag. Online at the designer website it is now valued at $1 000 and that's plenty enough!

I prefer bags that I could easily replace if they got destroyed or stolen - carrying a $1 800 bag just makes me paranoid and all I can think about is the bag and its safety and comfort. My HG was the Chanel GST but now I've gotten past it. I love the LV Soft Lockit but - unless I win the lottery - I will never purchase a new one. I don't mind carrying pre-loved or vintage, most of my bags are one or the other since bag prices have gotten really obscene lately...

I could easily come up with 4 bags in the $500 category I really want to have but coming up with one that I could live with in the $2 000 category is extremely hard.

I'd split it - an LV Speedy (currently selling for around $1000 but was much less when I bought mine) plus contemporaries (MK, Coach, Kate Spade and similar brands, and I'd try to get them on sale so I could have 4 or 5 instead of 2 or 3) to make up the rest of the $2000.

I like a variety rather than using one bag every day until it wears out, plus I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying a hugely expensive bag (worry about damaging it myself, or being a target for theft).

Tough call-I like it all!! While I love my Chanels, Givenchys, Lanvins, etc. I am currently very content with an army of Mansur Gavriels. I am less bothered by little nicks and scrathes plus they are awesome bags. Think I will always need a mix of both.

Right now I'm in the $500 camp. Historically, I wasn't. I chose Chanel, YSL, Proenza Schouler. But I'm in in the throws of a Mansur Gavriel obsession now - and Clare Vivier too.

Yea...you girls have cornered the MG market. LOL!
I'm an equal opportunity purse collector...one of each high-end bags. I get bored easily and have decided to recycle my good bags...why have them sitting in a closet?
I love the MG bags and will treat myself to the cammello/silver...if I can find it.
Can't beat the price with a stick!

5 $200 small bags plus 3 $333 medium bags, all carefully selected. And discounted. Different colors.

I say this because the bag I have that is easiest to use is my Coach Bleecker mini duffle in black with dark hardware. $198 prior to discounts, well made, not fancy, still cute.

I would take the one $2000 bag. Having one great bag brings me more enjoyment than quantity. Before joining this forum, I carried one bag until it wore out, and I was happy. So, I could do it again with style. ;)

LOL, I like the way you think!

It's hard to let go of $2000 one time!

I actually had an actual experience on this, though for half this amount. I was having a hard time pulling the trigger on a Mulberry bag or a Chloe or another Balenciaga bag. The Mulberry went as low as $999 in Bluefly I think, but I still couldn't since I was supposed to be on a ban. Then I saw a good deal on an RM ($143), was enticed by a Furla bag ($220), saw that the MbMJ Natasha which I had been wanting for a long time went on sale ($300 after tax) and got attracted by a Massaccesi bag (almost $500), all in a span of maybe 2 weeks. So there - I exceeded the cost of one bag!! 4 for 1.
