It's the same over here- I was taking out a large (for me at least!) sum of money out of my account. Bank of Ireland asked me what it was for- I made up something stupid like I was on my holidays or something, but I was so tempted to tell them I had a very expensive cocaine habit, which I don't!

This really angers me when the bank asks you! You put the money in and it's like they don't want to give it back. When I bought my SL for cash (meaning no lease) I went to the bank for a cashier's check. The punk kid teller starts asking me 20 questions. I was so inflammed, I called the bank manager when I go home and complained about the teller!

What a nerve.

Good on you! It's none of their business what you want YOUR money for... but they usually do the anti money- laundering spiel... pity they don't try that when people are paying in large somes of money, where it would be more relevant!

They usually don't want to give it back!

Sorry- this was very OT!

Not really OT. You need money to buy the bags and sometimes you have to go to the bank to get it:graucho: Try explaining (as if you had to!) what you are about to spend for a bag, when they are making ??? per hour. Now that is a reality moment!

Amex...with a preliminary call sharing anticipated purchase amount/clearance.

I believe you can do this with debit cards as well, which is how I always make major purchases on mine-- although I've never purchased anything as big as a croc Birkin with it!

If only DH would actually let me use his AmEx (ummmm....yeah, he put mine through the shredder:shrugs:)

I can relate. Same thing happened to me last year when I purchased my car

I should have called the bank manager!!!

Sometimes it a combination of ATM and Credit card. I always call the banks first and let them know though and this has always worked well.

I think that they allow you to use several forms of tender. I was in at the SF boutique once and a lady purchased a croc Birkin amongst other things, all of which got her total to go several digits long. It seems like she paid with at least 5 credit cards, each credit card processing at least $10K, and some cash.

^^ Just want to qualify that I do not know how other lucky customers around the world pay for their crocs at their H stores, so I only can speak for the customers at mine. Crocs are only offered to VVIPs. Period.

And these customers come from very well-to-do backgrounds and professions that many aspire to be in. The truth is, these customers do not spend on credit. And I can tell you why ... our interest rate on cards is 24%. The highest in the world you can find.

It depends on the country AND on the store.....

On yes ... this reminds me, bank cheques are also allowed. But the customer will have to wait till the cheque clears, and the H store account credited and verified by Accounts.

^^ If someone is going to do this, I suggest you deposit that very same cheque into your own credit card that you want to use, and charge it nicely.
