I know this will shock some, but I put my new mezzo in my tanning bed to try and speed up the patina. It worked. It looks like I've been carrying it for a year.I don't use the bed anymore so I guess it's just for tanning my bags now!

Holy crap!! Are you kidding me? Did it really work? How old is your Mezzo? How long did you leave it in? How many times. DETAILS!!!

I've had my Recital since valentine's day and it is only just starting to turn. I sat it in the sun a few times but we have had so much rain I have been afraid to carry it a lot. I think I am going to go with a Damier next so I won't be so paranoid.

one thing to keep in mind, the handles will darken faster and more a black color if you use handcream...
So be sure if you're going to use your hand held bag .. NO HAND CREAM!

So agree. Lotion will NOT make the bag look good. I used lotion and tried to wipe it off my hands as good as I could. I noticed later that every other surface of the leather was nice even patina except the handles that were starting to get much darker :amazed: It was b/c of my lotion. NO NO lotion!!!

oh man, this kinda scares me! It hasn't turned black on me yet, but then my lotion is very light. Perhaps I should stop though:push:

O K,I put leather conditioner on all the leather and put the bag in the tanning bed for 10 minutes because I was afraid to leave it longer.Took it out ,looked at it and decided to do it for 20 minutes.I've done this three times in the past week. The bag is 3 weeks old and looks like I've been carrying it for a year.I did the same thing to my keepall 45 before my london trip 2 weeks ago.I didn't want the bag to look too new.I love the way it looks.

Never thought about it, but now that I read your post it totally makes sense. Heck, if people are lying on tanning beds w/their naked skin, it can't do more damage to the bag than the person, no? LOL~~~ This would also give an even patina!

I personally want my vanchetta to look naked as possible. I abused my mini sac HL so much that it turned dark/close to black towards the middle part of the handle while the rest part had the nice honey patina. Now, I'll take special care of my LVs.

i know what you mean pursegalsf. i love the patina look and i'm refusing to use my speedy until it does. i'm trying to tan it by the window sil but not much sun is getting into the house. it's driving me crazy.
