OK, this might sound silly but how does the patina start? I've had mine for almost 2 months.. it's starting to get tinsy dark spots on the undersides of the handles.. or is that dirt? Can't be cos I haven't used it that much and I'm very careful to wash my hands before I touch my baby.. The handles will slowly turn color right?

The patina is the all over honey color that you get from sunlight, natural oils from your hands, etc. Unfortunately, I think it is dirt. I haven't used mine that long and I'm so paranoid about dirt on the handles. That's why I want the patina now! :D

hehe...I know what you mean, my mom has an LV that she rarely uses, so it's sooo pale. I told her I'd have carry it around so it'd start to patina...I was pretty impatient and I got into the habit of rubbing the handles with my hands over and over...I guess I was little OCD. It's still taking forever...but I guess we should enjoy it. I really like the honey color but not when it's super dark brown. I'd probably want to get the handles replaced if it ever got that way.

I use hand lotion daily and I think the moisture from my hands helped patina the handles on my Ellipse pretty quickly. Just make sure the lotion is fully absorbed into your skin before picking up your bag.
Also, I try to hold my handles on different spots because I hate that the middle darkens more. Uneven patina drives me up the walls:wacko:  !!

I know you're one of those people who like the signature patina, but I hate patina, if it were up to me, there would be a spray to stop the process altogether..

Me too!!

We should trade Speedys!! Mine has an even honey patina which drives me nuts!

I was waiting fooooorever for the patina on my Speedy. It never came. I only used it a handful of times before I sold it on the forum. Bah. I probably would've kept it if it came with its own ready-made-patina. I should really looking into a used LV.

Lucky me, I got to reap the benefits and now I have a barely patina'd new Speedy bag.
Thanks Intelset and Cat. :p

Funny enough I havent used it yet for fear of getting the handles dirty.

Why do we spend so much on bags and purses only to rarely carry them because we're "scared"? It's the silliest thing i've seen.

If my boyfriend buys new shoes, and he's wearing them out of the store and I take forever to carry a bag that I paid hundreds for.

I know this will shock some, but I put my new mezzo in my tanning bed to try and speed up the patina. It worked. It looks like I've been carrying it for a year.I don't use the bed anymore so I guess it's just for tanning my bags now!
