I've been told that the discount is often 40%-50% French retail. There are often silk scarves/ties, ready to wear, shoes, chinaware, sometimes enamels. No leather goods (bags, wallets, clutches, charms, bracelets, etc.). These are what is often on sale as observed in the previous sales, however no one is 100% sure what will go on sale until they reach the venue.

The VAT procedure is changing but there is still a VAT refund for non European Union residents.

The post seemed to indicate no VAT refund for shopping in France. The procedure is changing, but VAT is still refunded.

Hermes has always kept back some of the refund amount on regularly priced items and it is within their rights not to offer any detaxe on sale items.

Yes they still offer detaxe for regular price shopping but they do not seems to offer detaxe to sale items anymore. I think that's what the OP is referring to, isn't it? Or I misunderstand?

I haven't decided, I was planning a Paris Hermes trip anyway, but if it coincides with the sale then that's great. Generally I buy the leather and jewellery. I've never been to a sale before so if, as people say, it's silks & clothes then I won't find what I'd like there

When I went to the summer sale I asked about detax, but they do not offer it. That's ok with me since the goods are discounted.

No, twistedflavour, no bracelets, no jewelry generally speaking, no SLG. No bags, useless to say. You may only find scarves, shawls, RTW, shoes, hats and gloves, China, towels, etc. HTH!
