SoonerOrLater, thanks so much for your input
I had serious doubts about rivets, but wanted to verify with experienced collectors (150 beads is quite a collection!). I have read discussions of lampworkers using rivets but didnt consider this was a high quality practice of artistic work. So your input confirms to me its better to wait to raise the money for the mechanical press than to use rivets in the meantime.
I agree that metal should not distract from the design of the bead, I saw the Pandora printing you mentioned and find it very ugly but didnt want to say so to not upset people who like them. I mean the companies do great job with gorgeous metal beads, but glass bead are not very attractive to my eye (some exceptions)
Ill take note of your suggestion of not putting auction for more than 3 to 5 days and to combine with buy it now if I choose the Ebay path. I sure would like to open a Etsy store. I find it easier to browse the past work of artist and I like the ambiance there Like you said trying many is the way to go !
I know copper tarnish faster than silver, but I have ideas of antique copper caps combined with silver lining, that may be a thing to experiment If I'm able to find it at good price, I may use Argentium sterling silver tube, that is a kind of silver with same sterling content but with less copper content (its replaced with a rare metal called germanium), so it has high tarnish resistance.
So a lot of research + patience + practice in perspective !
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this,
Best regards,
Julie
I personally love the silver on Pandoras glass beads. I could live without the branding on them, but I like the amount of silver. I do prefer silver beads to glass though which is probably why I like them. I only have 3 glass beads on my bracelet for color. I plan on getting more to swap out when I want to match. The rest of my beads are sterling w/14k or plain sterling. I don't think I'd want any more than 3 colored glass beads on mine at one time, just personal preference.
