I am definitely guilty of this. When I like a style of bag, shoe, jacket, top, etc., I will buy it in multiple colors. It's hard for me to find something that I really like so when I do, I go all in, :P.

I love Roots Village bag. I always have one in my collection (and always the tribe leather!) I’m currently on my 3rd. It’s my go-to travel bag :smile:

I do like the idea of multiples but only if the bag is practical for me and I can see myself wearing it to death. I sometimes worry about using a bag too much and then having it fall apart and not being able to use it any longer. The duplicate idea, for whatever reason, lets me enjoy the bag knowing that I have another in my collection. I don’t actually own any at the moment, but could see myself doing so in the future. One requirement is that they need to be a different color or leather, not an exact duplicate of the current bag I own.

I think there are two ways of doing multiples;

1. getting multiples because you've found a/the one style you love and use every day. I've seen collections on the tPF with over 20 similar bags in different colors, and the owners have mentioned in the reveal that they own very few bags in addition because the style they have multiples of is always their everyday choice. Then it makes sense. It's like finding your true love, and I get it. It doesn't make sense to buy duplicates let alone more of the same bag if the one bag individual you already have, doesn't get regular use.

2. getting multiples just because. F.e. I know a person that owns 4 M Bayswaters but doesn't really use them because they're so heavy. She prefers using a LC LP for work and free time. Another person owns 3 C Jumbo flaps but doesn't really like them because they're unpractical and heavy but they look cool. Those are expensive shelf decorations. If you're in the market for 5000€ shelf decorations or something to pose in photos with - fine. But if you want a bag you can actually use it doesn't really look smart buying something that isn't comfortable and useful in your life.
You know, the real life you live, not the one you wish you had.

Both ways are probably right for the person doing one or the other. For myself, the one that makes more sense is the first option. For me, the only bag that would make sense to have 2 of is Kurt Geiger Kensington XXL which just works in every way.

Oh, and, if you count a Vintage Penny and a New Penny to be duplicates, then I do own duplicates. The bags are so different though, that I wouldn't count them as straight up twin sisters.

I am seriously having an issue deciding whether or not to order another Longchamp le pliage in gunmetal because I think they are discontinuing it. Should I get the same bag or wait for another color? They always end up carrying a gray don’t they. ? I don’t like the black or navy. Also considered trying the short handle too but I think it would drive me nuts.

Same one, if they are discontinuing it and it’s the only one you want. JMO

i buy the same bag, usually in different neutrals and leathers bc I know I will wear them. mainly B30 in heritage and Togo leather. All phw.

Thanks for that and can I see pics of your bags ? I think you’re right. I will have to get a second one. Can you speak to owning short handle bags. Are they just completely pointless?

I posted some of my bags in this thread (along with many other TPF members). I consider B30 and K28 short handle bags and have several. I prefer to use them without straps when I’m wearing certain types of clothing (for instance, jackets whose shoulders or fabric would get messed up by the friction caused by a strap). I also am a recent convert to the medium lady Dior and prefer to hand carry it. Is it as convenient as a shoulder strap? No, but neither is a clutch. There’s a time and place for everything , so long as you love the style. I think a tote bag is also nice if you can carry it in the crook of your arm.
