Here's my problem with the whole thing. This incident very well could have been because she was black. I don't know. I wasn't there. But the other incident, the Hermes thing? That was because she was black, too? I don't see how expecting someone to open a store for you AFTER hours and them not doing it is racism? When I go shopping, I don't expect anyone to hold a store open after it closed for me.

I have had SA in Europe be snotty to me, too.

I don't understand that either, I think it's rather presumptuous to expect a store to stay open late for you because you are famous/rich. Idk how that's racist?

YES to the Hermes incident. I thought the exact same thing. Why should the employees have to stay late so you can shop? They have lives, families, responsibilities, etc. They just want to go home after a long day, not stay an extra hour so someone rich and famous can do their shopping in peace. I don't even know why that incident made the news. Just because you're famous it means every place of business should bend the rules and cater to you otherwise they're being rude or racist?

IMO, beloved is a great book, but one that never should have never been turned into a movie. I could watch the color purple once a month.

I quite enjoyed The Butler, actually sat all the way through the credits.

hmm thanks for that review....i try to support black films but i didnt wanna watch it...but i was gonna go anyway

ITA!
I know it does happen sometimes, but I don't see why reopening after closing time for a rich and famous customer would be the norm. It's such a weird expectation to have.

I saw an interview with Oprah on ET and she was saying how she didn't want this made into this huge deal and its "just a bag"... Um well what did she expect? If Oprah accuses someone of racism did she expect people to be like oh ok and just keep it moving?

Oh then I must have missunderstood the H incident, I thought she came 15 min before closing time and were told they were closed.

The Hermes narrative incident is quite fluid.
There was a private party
The store had been robbed earlier by black people
It was already closed
It was 15 minutes before closing
And on and on....

But at the end the Hermes CEO(?) went on her show and offered a public mea culpa.
Hermes is now everywhere.... So win-win.;)

Thought she came into the store before it closed and they told her it was closed while customers where still shopping. Then there was a "private" party happening after closing hours.....but no reported actual private party. Then the store says it was all on video to prove their story....but not going to release the video. That story constantly changed out of the Hermes camp.

In any event, Oprah just told her accounts in both of these stories. The media forces us to run with the racism angle because we just have a huge race issue in this country.
