My friend sent me a Chanel bag from France and stated "used bag", and $80, instead "a gift".
They opened it, saw the bag that ddnt look $80 at all and requested a prove from me that the bag was actually $80. Like bank statement, paypal transfer or something like this.
Obviously I could not prove that. They shipped it back to France.

I once sold a vintage Kelly Porosus croc to a lovely lady in the USA.
She asked me to ship the bag with a Cites and declare full value. So I applied for a cites for the bag, (2 weeks wait) and got it...perfect
I fedex the bag with its Cites and full value declared.
The bag get stuck in the US customs for the reason that "there are no crocodiles in the country of exportation, so this country is not allowed to release a Cites permit for a crocodile item ...."
L O L
I had to write a long email to this agent, to explain exactly the long journey of that poor crocodile, since it was killed sometime between 1970 and 1972 somewhere in Australia (pre-Cites BTW), until it arrived 30 years later, that day, at the US border, in the shape of a pre-owned Kelly bag....
It took 4 weeks to this gentleman to finally make a decision.
SympathyDuet said:From your post it sounds like it was stopped at customs due to the declared value at first, and not because it was exotic. How did they come to find out it was exotic? Did you tell them when you arrived at customs? I ask because you noted that they had not opened the box at that point.
I hope you get everything sorted out.
This is clearly an important thread regarding the significance of an original cites certificate. Even at the boutiques, it is a hit or miss with cites. Some come with, others without. IMO, they should all have the darn cites.
........
Whenever you buy something exotic, make sure the seller added a CITES permit!
What I am wondering about is that if I would have asked for a CITES permit and they would Not have Sent one, I would have been in the same situation As I am now. I would Be the One to Pay the Fine.... This is really horrible....
although I feel healed from exotics at the moment I know whom I attend next time before I by something to get to know which permits I need to make it legalI can only speak from my experience in my own country.
If I had to ask for a Cites permit for say a lizard used bracelet, I would have to fill a form with my buyer's name and address, pay a bout $40 and wait 2 to 4 weeks to receive it.Then only I could ship my item.
If I were a manufacturer of exotic items in my country I would get pre-filled Cites permits that I would only have to fill with my buyer's name at the time of shipping abroad. A bit quicker![]()

Your inputs really intrigued me. LEt just say if I m wearing an exotic leather CDC, and travel to other countries for holiday, i need to have a CITES with me too?TIA
