On occasion, the custom flickers still open some parcels they find suspicios.

My friend sent me a Chanel bag from France and stated "used bag", and $80, instead "a gift".
They opened it, saw the bag that ddnt look $80 at all and requested a prove from me that the bag was actually $80. Like bank statement, paypal transfer or something like this.
Obviously I could not prove that. They shipped it back to France.

OMG, there was just a one thing not filled in the right way and this is it...
At least they sent it back, the bag still exists and the only thing you had to pay were the shipping costs....
Still, you did not get your bag....

Ok so, I will be a bit off topic ....

I once sold a vintage Kelly Porosus croc to a lovely lady in the USA.

She asked me to ship the bag with a Cites and declare full value. So I applied for a cites for the bag, (2 weeks wait) and got it...perfect
I fedex the bag with its Cites and full value declared.

The bag get stuck in the US customs for the reason that "there are no crocodiles in the country of exportation, so this country is not allowed to release a Cites permit for a crocodile item ...."

L O L

I had to write a long email to this agent, to explain exactly the long journey of that poor crocodile, since it was killed sometime between 1970 and 1972 somewhere in Australia (pre-Cites BTW), until it arrived 30 years later, that day, at the US border, in the shape of a pre-owned Kelly bag....

It took 4 weeks to this gentleman to finally make a decision.

This is really funny.... Thank you for sharing!

From your post it sounds like it was stopped at customs due to the declared value at first, and not because it was exotic. How did they come to find out it was exotic? Did you tell them when you arrived at customs? I ask because you noted that they had not opened the box at that point.

I hope you get everything sorted out.

This is clearly an important thread regarding the significance of an original cites certificate. Even at the boutiques, it is a hit or miss with cites. Some come with, others without. IMO, they should all have the darn cites.

This is so long ago that I start to forget details of the beginning;)
They opened the parcel because I had not been sure about the leather. I just went there in may in order to pick up my bracelet, I had not Read the letter I recieved from customs As I knew they always wanted to see the original paypal reciet. And when they asked me about the leather I only knew the colour because this was the only thing interesting for me As it should be perfect with a scarf I bought....
Once again: blonde
Whenever you buy something exotic, make sure the seller added a CITES permit!
What I am wondering about is that if I would have asked for a CITES permit and they would Not have Sent one, I would have been in the same situation As I am now. I would Be the One to Pay the Fine.... This is really horrible....

A short reminder for everyone :
The "Cites" is a permit of exportation, re-exportation or importation, issued by a country's "wildlife buro" (different country/different name).
It is part of a tracking system that was designed by CITES ( Convention for International Trade of Endangered Species )

When does an H item needs a Cites ?
When it changes Owner AND Country.

This means : Each time an item changes Owner AND County , it will officially need a new CITES permit.
This permit will mention name and address of seller and name and address of buyer. It is issued by "wildlife Buro" of country of departure . It allows the item to change owner and country, it will be stamped by customs at exit of country of departure, and again at entry of country of destination. Each country's "wildlife buro" keeps a copy of this permit, and so the item is trackable.

If you get a croc Item from Hermes in your country of residence: NO CITES.
Same thing with a croc item from any re-seller.

In H stores, some items come with a paper copy of the Cites issued for the skins. It might be used as a proof of what type of skin the item is made of, but it is in NO WAY a valid paperwork for customs, in case of shipping. You can keep this for your "peace of mind", that's all.
The only valid CITES for shipping or importing an exotic item to your country of residence if bought outside, is a Cites permit with YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON IT.

If you don't have this , either released by H in your name, or by your reseller , in your name, don't ever mention the item. Put it on arm, swallow the receipt and go, just as if you had owned it forever.

I can only speak from my experience in my own country.
If I had to ask for a Cites permit for say a lizard used bracelet, I would have to fill a form with my buyer's name and address, pay a bout $40 and wait 2 to 4 weeks to receive it.Then only I could ship my item.

If I were a manufacturer of exotic items in my country I would get pre-filled Cites permits that I would only have to fill with my buyer's name at the time of shipping abroad. A bit quicker ;)

although I feel healed from exotics at the moment I know whom I attend next time before I by something to get to know which permits I need to make it legal:graucho:

Sorry to hear about this snafu - it is horrible that you lost out on the bracelet! But you have a lovely sense of humor and I'll bet that you are a riot in person! You and Perlerare have kept me alternately laughing and in suspense while reading this thread. If I am ever so lucky as to own an exotic, I know about CITES now!

Honesty, my heart is ACHING at the thought of this gorgeous KD stting somewhere in a dark room all alone

These are impossible to find!! My biggest regret is not buying a Lizzie mykonos KD with PHW ! I did get the gorgeous one in my avatar.

Sorry this happened, op :(

Your inputs really intrigued me. LEt just say if I m wearing an exotic leather CDC, and travel to other countries for holiday, i need to have a CITES with me too?:smile1: TIA
