you know i am slightly anxious about this letter. i trusted the coach SAs when they would say "we have a generous return policy, keep the tags on, keep the receipt, and you can return it. take it home and decide blah blah blah." so i listened to them. well i have been slightly naughty recently and have been buying buying buying cute coach stuff. well i decided that to help fund these new purchases i should reevaluate some old purchases that were NWT... so i returned a bunch... there were 2 things i didn't have receipts for, which were gifts from my mom... anyways, i never had to fill out any paper work (either to buy or return or exchange)... but anyway, i am slightly scared because i went to the FP store on saturday to use my pce (the SAs at the store know me and know that i buy a good amount from them, especially when PCE comes out). anyways, when they were ringing me up, the SA couldn't find me in the computer. and she was really distressed. she took down my information and said that she would look into why my information wasn't in the computer. i am totally paranoid that they are giving me a letter and that's why my info wasn't in the computer anymore.... i guess if i do get the letter, then i guess it will be better for my wallet... since i should probably not spend as much.... and i am happy with the purse i got for pce....

I'm not proud of it, but I returned a bunch of stuff in January and February, actually I exchanged a bunch of stuff because I always picked up something new whenever I returned items. I got a little over-excited by all of the pretty bargains and had to edit my collection as a result. I've been asked to show my ID and give my information when making these exchanges, but other retailers ask for this info when making a return so providing it to Coach didn't bother me. I always exchanged NWT and with receipts, and none of the items were purchased with intent to resell. I'm just highly indecisive when surrounded by beautiful bargains :blushing:

I was buying an item at the outlet recently - only buying new, not returning or exchanging - and the SA couldn't find my info in the computer. He had to enter my info again. Keep in mind that I usually bring in my online coupon printed out rather than use the coupons they had out at the door in an attempt to remain on the coupon mailing list, and I was using the online coupon for this particular transaction. I was puzzled, but he shrugged it off saying that this happens sometimes. He keyed my info and rang up my sale. Not sure if there was more to that "your info isn't in the computer" than what he told me, but I've bought from both PP and Aurora since then with no problems.

I guess if I get a letter, I'll just shift my hobby money elsewhere. The weather's getting warmer and I've been considering a return to casual photography anyhoo :smile1: I wouldn't mind picking up a digital SLR!

I would assume if Coach bans you they don't delete you from the system. They probably keep your info in, and then when an SA tries to ring you up that is what notifies them that you are banned.

^^^Agreed. The whole re-entering of info is probably nothing. Did you all make sure your name was spelled exactly correct on the receipt? I had to go through all that (giving all my info) when I made a purchase a few weeks ago & wondered why. The SA said that it happens sometimes. Turns out, she misspelled my name (I saw the receipt afterward)!

OP - I'm truly sorry this happened to you and the fact that you were humiliated in public has me seriously questioning how much I want to support a company that does that as standard procedure. Coach is inconsistent in most things they do and I frankly have found their "systems" of doing many things highly questionable. It's really an individual choice on how you handle this, but I personally have a bit of a temper and put a high value on good customer service. I'd call Coach corporate and make one and only one effort to calmly straighten the matter out because it's always possible they made an error, however if that was not handled to my satisfaction, that would be the end of my relationship with Coach.

I do buy a lot at the outlet (rarely multiples however) and I return (with receipt) a lot because I can't resist a good deal and then get home and realize that I'll never use all of this and I didn't really need that many gifts. I rarely get gift receipts however - maybe 5 or 6 a year - usually when I buy a bag for my MIL. I've also sold older Coach items that I've used and gotten tired of or bought and never used.

Baglady - ITA that Coach's return policy is beyond ridiculous! I also agree that the SA's highly encourage abuse of that policy by pushing you to buy, buy, buy because you can "always return it". I wish they would implement a strict returns policy at the outlets - either "no returns" such as Gucci does or a 30 day policy -- I'd be much more likely to actually put some thought into what I'm buying and not return anywhere near as much!

OP - I hope this works out to your satisfaction!

i am sorry for this..and the thing is..on paper it just sounds like a reseller..although deeper you can see she is really just helping you buy..did she share that with the SAs i wonder? or does she go and just tell them what she wants to buy..and chats about other things in general..

a lot of you say there should be warnings..and the sa should treat you as it is..instead of acting nice to you (this i never really got, are they suppose to give you horrible service??)

take this on the other hand, as a sales associate you should never ever discriminate a customer to their face, anything suspicious you report to company, same as if you would if u saw a coworker steal, u don't confront the coworker, u go to the manager in turn go to the company..it is like that everywhere no?

again, there are more sides to the story i realize that, and i know some innocent gets caught in the pithole like the one below, where it can be seen as reselling but with everything she probably didn't make much and was really only making it more accessible for crissy

also i want to mention i know someone who got the refunder letter..and i've known her for quite some time..and she came back to exchange with a receipt..i did not mention anything to her..and didn't treat it any differently cos she had a receipt..and the letter only states she cannot make returns without a receipt..so i handled her like any other customer.

she has been back several times since.

Just adding a sad story that touched me personally here.

I had a personal shopper that used to buy my Coach stuff for me who I adored. There are only 2 outlets in Canada, and the closest one to me is a 6 hour drive. She lived about 1/2 an hour away it. I would call the outlet and see what they had in stock, then I would let her know what I wanted, and she'd go pick it up and send it to me and I would pay her 10% of the price for her gas, time, etc. Beautiful arrangement. She was also doing this for many of her other customers. She didn't only shop for Coach, she was a personal shopper and would hunt down items people didn't have the time to do themselves.

Well long story short, she also got the letter. She was so hurt and betrayed that she cried all weekend. The SA's at the outlet always treated her like gold, loved her little ones and used to chat to her husband. She used to make a whole weekend out of going to Coach with her family and truly loved the brand and the whole experience.

She was so crushed by this it broke my heart. I wanted to help her fight it by sending a letter to Coach and letting them know what a great service she was providing for many of us who are nowhere near an outlet. Canada is a huge country, and with only two outlets, this lady was doing a great service for Coach lovers.

But she was afraid that if I got involved they'd link me to her somehow and she was afraid that would end poorly for me, so she told me not to do anything.

But boy did that leave a bad taste in my mouth for Coach for awhile. It's s shame that their product is so awesome but their corporate policies are so awful.

you always THINK you know the whole story but you don't really unless you are that person. (too lazy to quote and delete but it's from baglady39 previous page)

and as for looking up records the store itself, does not have the ability to do so after a year and hardcopy is up to 30 days on computer, paperwork gets stored and at the end of every year they shred it to make room for next year. and every store has it's own records so if you didn't buy it there they can't look it up even if they wanted to go through all their paperwork--that's if there is any--cash transactions do not print out anything but the original receipt which you take. clienttrack and the usage of that is another story altogether

usually the paperwork gets dug up in case of a credit fraud and chargeback/inquiry by the credit card company on behalf of the individual..i believe a chargeback only can be done until x amount of time, varies between companies but a year suffices I think

edit-also the paperwork is simply the paper you sign which has the last four digit and your signature, nothing that is in danger of identity fraud

I have to disagree here, I was in the FP store just last week with a faulty item. I had purchased it in that store but did not have the receipt with me. The manger was able to look through the list of purchases, outlet and FP, to locate the item.

In most businesses the management team have more system access than regular SA, so maybe that was why she had access to all of my purchases. I was surprised to see the list, I hardly ever buy at FP so the list was all my outlet purchases. She looked at me and said 'look at you, you have been busy' and then stopped to admire my Gigi.

At the end of the day we all have our free will. We shop Coach because we choose to, if at anytime they decided they no longer wanted by business I would return anything that I had a receipt and tag for and, as Jay-Z says "on to the next one"

pls highlight the part where i said clienttrack and the usage of, is another matter altogether. what your sa did was on clienttrack..not completely different but a separate entity of the POS system where u are rung up..had u paid cash..and insist on not giving ur info..and the SA don't know you..it would not be in clienttrack..then there would be no way she can look that up for you at all i hope that makes it more clear, i realize i write a lot, but i rarely write without reason..so every word..has something you can get info out of.

i know i don't know everything..but i definitely know a lot about the transactions, purchase history on clienttrack, etc etc

also, what she did was highly unprofessional..while she used the system to help you out..she should NOT have made the comment she did..nor let you know that she had all that access..and at the end of the day..it only says what you brought, exchanged, returned, etc..and how much..not how it was paid..etc etc..and cannot be used as a replacement of receipt, only in reference and in cases where a customer really wants to return an item but does not have receipt..we need to see how much was paid (discount versus actual retail price)..and even then we would either make an exchange or if possible issue merchandise credit..at the end of the day..receipts are golden.

edit-i typed this just as you asked the questions..i think i answered it all..without even realizing u had those questions lol

After reading this thread, I'm beginning to question my returns that I have done. I'm a HUGE impulse buyer and a sucker for deals on anything even Coach. ALL of my Coach has been untouched since it has been purchased, some of the items dates back 2~3 years. All my returns are NWT and with receipts.

This forum gets the best of us, as my Coach addiction started winding down, I hopped on the Rebecca Minkoff train and got charging. As the CC bills came, I was short on cash and started returning a ton of my Coach essentials. I dreaded the hard work of selling on bay and found it easier to return it. The return were a combination of boutique and outlets items and the dates of the items were from 2 yr to 9 months back.
Yes, 2 years. There was an item that the outlet could not find in the system.

All this talk abt the LETTER has got me thinking, if I was on the LIST.

Now I'm a little confused, so they don't have access or they do have access to what you bought, place of purchase, price but not method of payment? So they can see your purchases from other stores.

Unprofessional yes, but informative none the less. I now know that the my purchase history can be accessed in any store. It may take the manager to do so but it can be done.
