OMG, are these PLASTIC links? WTF?

Mmph...I'm with the OP. I know that Coach has been cutting corners here and there for the past few years (it is a business), but this is just suspect, even if it is resin. If the material were something valuable but not metal, like, semi-precious stones, that would be HOT, and it wouldn't cost them too much. They could get away with charging more for it, too.

And I certainly don't buy Coach just for a trendy "look" - the whole idea behind the brand was stylish, timeless quality. Although every bag can't be made out of glove tanned leather, going to plastics and like materials is just too far.

The bag looks good, but I wouldn't pay Coach for anything made out of plastic, either. If I wanted trendy plastic I could buy bags at Kmart or Target (not that there's anything wrong with that).

If I pay $1,000 for a bag, I want the best quality. Whether that's plastic or resin, it doesn't look very durable, and I don't want my bag in for repairs every 5 minutes, KWIM?

Is the resin material strong? Is that the same stuff that gymnasts use on their hands (in the powder form, of course)?

Do you guys like the look of that? I'm just so accustomed to leather or chain-type straps that I was really caught off guard that such an expensive bag had this type of strap.

aren't you thinking of rosin, used for non slippage for dancers, gymnasts, violins.

I could never spend $1000 on a purse even if the links were solid gold! But I totally fell in love with a Kristin shoulder bag with resin links at the Aurora IL outlet yesterday and absolutely nothing about that bag suggested "cheap"! The resin links looked so sturdy that I think power tools would be necessary to break them! I didn't buy it even though it was only around $200 because I couldn't think of anything to wear with it or any occassion to wear it - but I carried it around the store with me for a long time before I reluctantly put it back on the clearance shelf.

It was a pinkish/coral leather bag with gold accents and the resin links were dark brown. It was marked down 50% off and then another 20% off with the coupon. You can see some pictures of it at the link below (nma) including close-ups of the resin links - but the pictures don't do it justice, it was much more luminous and absolutely stunning!

Ahhhhhh.....I need to sit on my fingers or otherwise I'll go into a typing frenzy again!! :p I had a FIT when this bag came out...first it was not like the prototype AT ALL, and yes, the darn rings...NOT my thing!!! I was SOOOO disappointed!!

It's not that it's not a nice bag, but IMO I would not pay $1k. PCE price is much more tolerable, and it is a good size bag, has gorgeous coral red lining, but there's a lot of wasted space. Thus, this zip tote style is not so much "me" as the satchel style...I don't really carry THAT much stuff, and typically nothing like magazines, etc. As for the rings, actually the LV rings look nicer in the posted photo, but the ones on the croc Kristin aren't horrible. I would say it's a nice contrast, but I'm not in love with the color rings they used...a bit reddish brown IMO for the other colors in the bag, but it's ok. Of course "camel" was not the color I would have called this bag either. Also, the stock photo is of course wrong in that the resin rings are not ivory colored. All in all, it's a really pretty bag, but honestly, not in my top 50 for sure!

I actually tried both of these croc bags (there's one in ivory as well), but in the end, I only ended up with the one you posted. The minute I got the ivory one, I returned it. It's pretty, but the camel is much nicer IMO. The ivory I would say is very "albino-ish"...no contrast really, and you can't see the croc print much since it's pretty monochromatic. It doesn't look as realistic. The resin rings are actually the color in the stock photo for the camel bag...ivory. The only contrast is the hardware really. So it was pretty, but not me.

Regarding the strength of the resin, I think these are nicer in a way than the ones on the resort drawstring shoulder totes. I got the pieced leather one, and one of the rings is actually SLIT...so it's open! It does separate a bit with weight in the bag, and honestly, I've been terrified. However, I've had it a long time now...since around end of Dec. 2008, I think, and I have had no issues. Not that I have carried it a ton, of course, but I have a few times, and I'm less terrified of it than originally. I don't think it looks good, however, and on that bag, IMO it was a poor choice...the solid leather bags had brass rings, which IMO would have been much nicer for this bag. Oh well! Anyway, IMO the rings are strong, but I'm sure anything could be faulty and break. I think the Kristin rings are less likely than the ones on this resort bag, though!

Great review, BL39! Thanks for the information and your perspective...it's on my wishlist, but I'm just going to hold out for an outlet transfer, b/c it's been my experience that EVERY BAG I've EVER WANTED has ended up at the outlet. I might have to go into super-outlet-stalker mode, but I'm pretty patient when it comes to waiting for bags. I'm REALLY bitter about the inlaid Brooke in plum...I JUST bought it last month, after saving all my birthday $$$$, and even with PCE, to see it for less than 1/2 of the PCE price just chaps my a$$. I still love the bag and all, but I'm just not that into you, FP boutique prices.
