I agree, this is a very sad tragedy that will forever change history on so many levels. My DH and I were talking, and he stated something interesting he was aware of I will copy/paste it below. I do wish the children would agree to organ donation to be studied for this disease. There will never be anything to prove his innocence but perhaps it could comfort his children somewhat to know their father unbeknownst to him was struggling with this disease.

San Diego Charger Junior Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest in 2012 at age 43. Later studies by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) concluded that Seau had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease that has also been found in other deceased former NFL players.[3][4] It is believed to be caused by repetitive head trauma, and can lead to conditions such as dementia, rage, and depression.
This has been an issue for years and the players association sued the NFL for health care to cover retired and current players with CTE because it’s such a wide spread problem. But there have been issues even after they reached a settlement. I’ve always wondered if OJ suffered from CTE and I hope his children do agree to have his brain tested.

His estate should be liquidated and the Goldman’s paid their judgement. I know it won’t… but it SHOULD
I never understood why money is so important, here.
Their son is gone , there is no money in the world who could bring him back.
It is like prolonging the agony in my view.
Hopefully, now that he is gone, they can feel some type of relief/peace.

I don’t think it’s ever been about the money for them, it’s about holding him accountable for his actions. A civil judgement was their only legal recourse.
I saw the autopsy photos, and Ron suffered so much in his final moments. I think it’s unfair to place judgment on how his family chooses to pursue justice.

I think people want to believe there was a physical cause because otherwise it’s too terrifying to accept that violent psychopaths exist, especially one who was a celebrated athlete and celebrity.

He had a years long history of domestic abuse towards Nicole. It wasn’t that he suddenly snapped.

It doesn't seem like he was broke.

"OJ makes a constant source of income through pensions, which creditors and the Goldman family cannot legally obtain. He receives $42,000 a year in Social Security, a pension from Screen Actors Guild and between $125,000 and $300,000 annually in an NFL pension."

Not looking for an excuse for OJ in particular but CTE doesn’t cause a sudden snap. It causes a permanent change in personality over time. It’s a progressive, degenerative disease affecting people who have suffered concussions or other traumatic brain injuries. Per Wikipedia, 345 of 376 deceased NFL players whose brains were examined post mortem were found to have CTE and in comparison, a 2018 BU study of the general population found 1 case of CTE in 164 autopsies and that one case had played college football.
Quoting from Wikipedia “Although the symptoms of CTE can vary, it doesn't directly cause death but instead changes personality and behavior, making a person not feel like themselves anymore.[15] Players with CTE can become isolated from their friends.[16] Sometimes they become unable to tell a story,[17] carry on a conversation,[18] or recognize their loved ones.[19] One former player later found to have CTE described having headaches that felt like ice picks hitting his brain.[20]

Some former players with CTE suffer from memory loss and depression.[21] Some players and those around them deal with their violent mood swings, rage,[22] and paranoia.[23][24] In some cases, damage to players' brains contributes to severe alcoholism leading to death.[25][26] Two former NFL Man of the Year winners suffering from CTE symptoms shot themselves in the chest so their brains could be studied for the damage inflicted by football.[27][28]”.

OJ played football in high school, college, and 10 years in the NFL so the chances that he suffered from CTE I would assume are very high. OJ’s marriage to Nicole Simpson included incidents of violence from the start. He married her in 1985, 6 years after he retired from the NFL. If he had CTE, it would have been quite advanced by then. Could he have been a violent psychopath? Sure. But its more likely, given his sports history, that he could have been suffering from an advanced case of CTE. Hopefully his children gave permission for his brain to be examined. Unfortunately, neither the issues of spousal abuse nor CTE were well understood in the 1980s.

What explanation remains for the theft of sports memorabilia that he was sent to prison for?
Does stealing fall under the degenerative disease of CTE as well..

I think irrational behavior does and would a rational person have thought he would be able to get away with stealing back some of his sports memorabilia? He made no effort to disguise himself during the robbery. So much of his behavior was just irrational. Of course one could argue that his life as a football superstar led him to believe he was entitled to do whatever he wanted and he was just a spoiled rotten super entitled former athlete and celebrity.

A sense of entitlement doesn't excuse all his irrational behavior & his history of abuse

It's touching to read about his children believing in his innocence. Children are often their parents' biggest victims. Their lives must not have been easy at all.

I think denial is just a way to mentally protect yourself with a situation like this, rather than believing your own father is capable of killing your mother.

The trauma that must inflict on children, I cannot imagine.

I also cannot imagine what the Browns and Goldmans have gone through for all these years. Their loved ones are dead while OJ was living his best life.

I never understood why the Browns didn't fight harder for custody of their grandchildren, especially if they believed OJ murdered their mother. The kids deserved to be raised in a caring and normal environment.

"NBC-TV quoted a family friend it didn’t identify as saying Ms. Simpson’s parents, Louis and Juditha Brown, decided Tuesday night they would not fight for custody."

That isn’t true. They fought hard for custody and they had custody for almost three years during the trial. The State of California gave them back to O.J. because he was acquitted.
