And @Evergreen602 , finding that pic of Maryvonne Pinault carrying it, another amazing find! I have to repost the pic, credit goes to @Evergreen602 for finding it….omg this Cabat  IMG_1490.jpeg

The size is similar to the new Mini Cabat, just a few centimeters difference. I see there is a “mirror” finish now, maybe they’ll carry it over to the Mini.

May be close in size, but not in quality.
None of it is
The main reason I’ve left this forum is because I have absolutely nothing positive to say about anything designed/manufactured after Tomas Maier left. I feel that all the newcomers to the brand should enjoy and love this new phase for BV, and not hear my thoughts. I don’t think there’s been any thought to how the designs will wear, and don’t get me started on the prices. Ridiculous. Like, really. BV was never cheap, but it felt luxe. Now (in my personal opinion only) it looks like H&M/AliExpress.
I check the authenticate and ID thread and that’s it. Bottega is dead to me.
Meh :blah:

Exactly. Such a difference in quality. Also tho, the beautiful and creative treatments BV was known for — pure art— are missing from the new bags too. That Peltro Mini Mini is in a whole other league then the new bags, imho.

I purchased a blue Nodini from a BVette a couple months back. She used it ALOT, she said. So i bought it as an all weather errand bag i would not need to baby. Despite her carrying it an untold # of times, corner wear is the only issue and its not bad at all. The weave is tight, the leather is delicious. Last week we were at the inlaws. My SIL, who is carrying a plasticky saffiano leather kate spade bag, started fondling the Nodini. Was very taken with the beautiful leather and obvious quality and artistry. There is no substitute for Old Bottega quality!

Hope i am not offending those who love New Bottega, its just not my jam although i can appreciate some of the styles.

Thank you @V0N1B2 ! That green is pretty. The new mini Cabats are nice, but just do not compare with Old BV, i agree with you and @indiaink …..i’ve tried a couple of the new bags and the leather/hardware quality is not the same, plus the weave is looser and imo will not age well. Agree with u regarding price too. I’ve purchased excellent condition Bolides for a lot less then what this mini Cabat retails for. I will buy a Bolide all day long before i pay retail for this mini Cabat. I really like the padded cassettes too but the prices are ridic, imho.

Folks like me who came to BV after the TM era really appreciate that you and India and other OG BVettes still hang around the threads to help us identify styles and get bags authenticated, despite the disenchantment with the House in its current iteration. :hugs:

and don’t get me started on the prices
This is the main reason I have not bought new in the boutique this year, and don't plan to unless something really special comes along. Even then, I imagine the price will be too special for me.

I happen to see promise in the new CD, but I think he's treading carefully and playing it safe at the moment. I don't envy his position. I think there is pressure to create strong revenue while a recession looms. Then there is pull between satisfying the longstanding BV clientele and attracting new clientele with fresh, innovative designs. I can't help but feel he's holding back, and we haven't seen his full vision. I see bags I like, but nothing that has wowed me enough to pay current prices. I do like MB's update on the Knot, and how he's designed it fit today's phones. But I'd rather wait a year and buy it for half of current retail, or less.

That leads me to the exponential price increases, I expect none of the current bags will become classics. The Pouch has been around something like 4 years, and I'm hearing rumors it will be discontinued. That's what happens when they nearly double the price in a short period of time, but then a Pouch in excellent used condition is available on the secondary market for half of the 2019 price. So that just breeds a fast fashion practice of churning out new styles in order to justify exorbitant price increases.

Concerning quality, I'm seeing a decline among most design houses now. Probably the only one keeping their quality up to standard is Hermes, and maybe a few smaller heritage brands. Meanwhile, the prices keep soaring, while it's clear cost-cutting measures are occurring in production. That's why I'm buying the higher quality styles before they get discontinued (i.e. - Loewe classic Puzzle vs Puzzle Edge), or searching the resale sites for the oldies but goodies.

I’m pretty happy with my mini. It’s a great size and I love the strap. I really love that the pouch clips in rather than ties. I find that very convenient that it can be removed easily. Sometimes I clip my keys to it; makes them easy to find.

The price is insane but as far as the quality; I have been using it every day and it still looks great to me. I have a medium cabat and an old mini. I have not pulled them out to compare but between the three the mini is my favorite. It’s just a very user friendly bag. I don’t baby it at all. I would consider adding another; my experience has been so positive. I also have a bolide and that is an amazing bag as well but this mini is still my preference. I don’t think I am overly careful with my bags but I feel the quality of the mini is great.

This is great to hear @annie9999. You are making me want to try one out now  It sounds like a great bag! The size is darling too, and so practical since it can be crossbodied. If ever you have time to compare your old vs new Cabats, it would be wonderful to hear your thoughts. I am very far from a boutique and viewing the bags irl is not an option. I am basing my observations about quality on the 3 post TM era bags i purchased and returned (a Garda produced during DL’s first year - the leather and hardware on it was nothing like my TM Gardas, a mini Jodie, and a large intrecciato Pouch). I surf resellers quite a bit too, and some bags like the mini Jodie, do not look to be aging well given how young they still are…….Versus very old TM Venetas that age like fine wine. The hardware, construction, and leather quality on these bags were definitely not the same as my TM era bags. If the Cabats are different, thats wonderful, and i would be interested in trying out a mini. I have read that the Arco totes are constructed really well, with excellent quality leather. That ticktock guy who cuts up bags showcased one. As an experienced BVette, if you feel the new Cabats are of good quality, i trust your assessment:flowers:

Edited to add: someone just posted a thread about crazy wear and tear on a barely used Loop. This is what scares me. Even with many years of wear and abuse i have not seen TM Nodinis on the resale market looking anything like this Loop :(

Question as i am very challenged regarding colors that look good on me lol, and any input would be appreciated. Orange bags. Does it matter if orange is not a good color for you? A very orangey orange bag. I cannot wear anything orange, i have light brown hair with blonde highlights, and fair skin but a very ruddy Irish complexion. The tone of my face seems to get even more red tinged as i age  If i am wearing say….a white shirt with jeans, or khaki pants, or navy leggings…..or a blue linen dress, etc. can i successfully carry an orange bag? Or nah?

It's hard to say without trying on the bag, but I would guess if you cannot wear the same orange in clothing, it probably won't work for a bag either. More than likely, the eye will be drawn to the orange object rather than enhancing you. But no matter what, I say wear what you like, if it makes you feel good.

I'm very interested in doing a seasonal color analysis for myself, and there are a couple of people on Youtube who do virtual analysis. I may try Carol Brailey out of Canada or Colour Analysis Studio out of Australia. Both have some really informative videos. I would recommend checking out their videos.

Thank u for the recommendation, i will check her out! I am terrible with color. But have been wearing fairly neutral color outfits the last few years, and adding pops of color with bags and scarves.

Thank u for the input on the orange bag also. I am on the fence. Its from Rebag so i think i have 7 days to consider it. Its an orange Bolide 31 and its really pretty….i don’t have any other orange bags except for an orange mini Veneta, which is so darn cute i can easily pull it off. The BOlide is a lot bigger tho.

Speaking of returns, for those who purchase on FP, go read their new return policies. It used to be 30 days but now its 15 days from the day they ship! And if they do not receive it back within that window, your refund will be 70%. Plus if you exceed a certain percentage of returns they are now charging a 10% restocking fee.

I think it would be beautiful with white or tan/beige linen!
