Ode to the Evelyne

@phoenixfeather Thanks for explaining! I would hate for an insert to show outside the bag (either by way of height or by pushing/denting the leather) - good to know the 7RP doesn't do that. Do you find it takes up too much interior volume? There are not many images or videos online of the insert inside an Evelyne but what I've seen make it look like a real space hog!

Oh my freaking goodness @Virevolte that's exquisitely beautiful! Do you (and @Annawakes) mind sharing the date stamps of yours so I know what approximate year(s) these were made? I've wanted a Barenia Evie for a long time but rarely find them, and when I do, they look either in poor condition or so nice that I'm skeptical if they're legit.

@Annawakes Gotcha, glad to know you extended the height. I wanted to do that on my TPM for protection but opted not to for visibility. It's black though so I could get away with it, this one is etoupe so I'd be more worried about staining the interior so I might do what you did and make it taller. I also love your idea of wallet in the zip pocket, mine is nice and flat so it'd work well zipped into a pocket too. Thank you for the photos - really helpful. I would've assumed you had to give up the slip pockets in favor of a zip pocket but it looks like you have a zip pocket and then slip pockets attached to that zip pocket. Do you find this makes the bag too thick/bulky?

Also love the idea (which @Book Worm had too) of the exterior being two different colors on each side. On my other inserts I did interior/exterior different colors (mainly so that the inside of the bag is light colored and never a black hole!) but never thought of the idea of two exterior colors to make for variety seen through the perforations  And any chance you'd share where you bought your vintage barenia?? It's gorgeous!
Hello Peonies13 & thank you for your kind words about my Bareina Evie! Mine is from 2000 (date stamp D in a square), and I believe I bought it - for not at all a crazy price, that much I do remember - from TheRealReal. Right now that site has a listing for a drop-dead gorgeous Sellier K 25 in Bareina that I would kill for, but it’s $25K & I just can’t swing it. If you can, please snap it up & post pics here so the rest of us can live vicariously! Oh, & here is a closeup of the date stamp on my Evie:

Thank you! It's stunning! I love that barenia only gets better with age :) Remind me, did you spa it recently? And does yours have the clasp issue like @golconda?

I saw that K25... gah wish that were in my budget (and honestly, K25 isn't a great size for me). Now a barenia B or HAC on the other hand... be still my heart!

I personally do feel that the insert takes up some valuable space. For me, the evie with an insert holds about the same as something like….a mini peekaboo (or something along the lines of a smaller, yet spacious bag….mini Loewe puzzle perhaps?)

I have to admit, for its size, I feel like it should carry more. Although, the very good thing is, I can throw in a book or a small bottle of water in my evie in a pinch, and I can’t do that with those other smaller bags. So in that sense it does fit more but I don’t normally use it that way.

I do feel that without an insert my things would be much looser and bouncing around inside. It’s a trade off between having space and having protection/organization, in my opinion (with the whitefox insert, that is, the only insert I’ve tried).

My date stamp is 2001 (E in square). I took a pic of my date stamp too. I think the same artisan made my and @Virevolte’s bags because we both have “RB” - except the placement is different from 2000 vs 2001.

For all my open top bags I always get an insert with a zip pocket, to put my wallet in. I have 2 wallets, a slim cardholder and a regular compact zippy. I keep the compact zippy in the zipper pocket. I normally put the slim cardholder in one of the slip pockets for easy access. It’s a little bulky but not so much I can’t use the slip pockets attached to the zip pocket. Good for things like tissues, receipts, flat things.

I bought mine from the real real too! It came up, and while the bag itself looked decent, the strap was badly stained and discolored. That’s really why I sent it to spa. They wanted “only” $215 to replace the canvas of the strap. I was so happy because I was going to buy a new H strap that would have been $1k. In total I paid around $700 (including tax) for the spa service. They conditioned the exterior leather, replaced the canvas portion of the strap, and also recovered the snap button with a small piece of new barenia. They didn’t do anything to the interior, which I had asked because the underside of the button (under the side pocket) was turning green from oxidation. I will have to check the care threads on how to clean that myself. I think some brasso?

Hi all! Just scored my first(!) H bag, an Evelyne 16 in Maurice, and looking to get an insert. For those with a 1.2mm Samorga insert, do you find it provides enough protection/support from items protruding out the side? Would go for the 2mm, but don’t love the noticeable outline it gives to the outside of the bag. TY!

I have a 2mm Samorga and the outline of the insert does not show w my TPM.

I added this ring to my Barenia Evelyne to make the strap a bit longer. Plus this style clasp often broke and the ring makes is easier to remove strap without risking breaking the clasp. If you look at older Evelynes with this clasp design, often one of them is broken and will not stay closed.

Yes I have the same problem with one of the strap clasps on my vintage Curry clemence Evie not staying closed! I love this idea of adding a link to lengthen the strap - thank you for sharing it!

I absolutely agree! As beautiful a bag as it is, K25 isn’t a great size for me either - but a B or HAC in Bareina would be HEAVEN! We live in hope…
Oh & yes I do have the same issue as @golconda with one of the strap clasps always coming open - though not on my Bareina Evie, on another Evie 29 in Curry. Her report on the benefits of sending her bag to the spa makes me want to do the same for all my vintage H bags!

Anyone here have any styling tips or pictures of any men who have been able to pull off an evie tpm? Love the bag; not sure if I can make it work. Thanks!

@Yoshi1296 post 11,137 looks amazing (like a model for the Bleu nuit TPM) and others :)

@880 you are the kindest soul! Thank you!

Received a PM in bleu pale with PHW today. Was able to order it from the H website.

Hi phoenixfeather. I love your collection of Evelyns. Such beautiful colours:loveeyes:. I purchased the tmp in bleu pale in June but mine came with a Gris Etain strap and ghw. I actually prefer the look of yours with the phw and matching strap. It is so beautiful. Wear it in good health and happiness:hugs:

I have just received my Evelyne 29 in Gold. Purchased straight from the H.com but it is made in 2021. I have seen TPM made in 2022 but not the PM (29). Does anyone have a different experience and was able to get Evelyne 29 made in 2022?
