Ode to the Evelyne

Can you return the Evelyn? It is an expensive bag to have to modify. If you bought the same bag used with a non adjustable strap I think you might like it. The used older Evelynes have much shorter straps. Finding one with GHW could be difficult.
The Evelyne is a very useful bag. I am sorry you are having this issue with it.

I just got a noir with GHW, my first Hermes bag. I find the bag without any strap quite heavy and the nylon strap makes it way too heavy. What are some substitute lighter shorter straps you can recommend? I’m hoping for something around 35 inches. TIA.

You can find very reasonably priced straps in many different lengths on Etsy. I would look there first before giving up on the bag. The Evelyn is one of my favorite bags. I often have a hard time rotating out of it

I found this strap lightweight and good quality as well as a perfect match to use with my Berline. I’d been borrowing my Evelyne strap and felt I needed another alternative to wearing it out. Great buy and looks good on my Evie too!

Thank you for your suggestions. I’m actually quite weight sensitive due to a cervical spine injury so I need very light crossbody bags. Believe it or not, I use a food scale to weigh my SLGs to find the lightest functional ones I can find. I find Balenciagas to be light enough for me. But I wanted to give H a try. I did see an H strap that was nice but can’t fork out $2k for a leather strap. I wonder if there is a thread where people post other workable reasonably priced straps. I also noticed that because the body of the bag is quite long, and I’m just 5’2, the shorter the strap the less pressure on my shoulder. If I find anything reasonable I will post.

I have the same problem! As I get older I’m more sensitive to weight plus I walk quite a bit daily so my bag becomes increasingly heavier with each passing block - especially during hot humid months. I’ve been using the wide shoulder strap from Pop &Suki for the last 18 months on all my Evelynes. I alternate between the wide shoulder (which is comparable to the 85 sized strap) for crossbody or the shorter wide shoulder strap for shoulder carry. The only drawback is the color selection for the wide straps: creme/white w ghw, pistachio (light green) w shw, or red w ghw. The creme and pistachio are pebbled leather so they match a bit to the clemence grain. The straps are lightweight and very comfortable. Also did I mention they’re about $35USD. I’ve been told that the strap coordinates well with the bag; even my SA asked me about it. I’ve got the 25/85 sangle cavale as well but the clasp tends to rotate when I move so it’s rather uncomfortable. Btw, I’m 5’1” and this strap hits me at the right place.

Thank you for your advice and pics. Unfortunately I could not tolerate the weight and returned it. That seems to be my general challenge with H bags. THe ones that fit my essentials are too heavy. Or they feel too dressy for my very casual lifestyle. I was kinda looking at threads on the mini lindy. Maybe???

Have you ever used a simple Prada nylon messenger bag? They are almost weightless empty. As much as I love Hermes when I go to a trade show and have to walk around for hours, I use a Prada messenger.

Idk if I can ask this here, but does the TPM size come up on H.com a lot? I haven't been able to spot it and I check somewhat regularly.

I moved out of my Etoupe PM and into my Abricot TPM today.

Love your Evies! They are both stunning. Do you mind if I ask how many things can you carry with the TPM? And how tall are you? I am planning to buy the Evelyne but don’t have a chance to try it on yet. I’m 5 ft 6. The TPM looked nice but it’s kind of small and the PM looked big to me in your photos.

My experience is that the TPM size shows up maybe once or twice a week on H.com. They are pretty popular and usually gone within 15 minutes. I've see them more often few days before major holidays, and I also noticed that H.com list new items only during weeks day but never on weekends. During 9:00-11:30 am and 5:00-6:30pm eastern time are likely to find new items listed. Hope that helps.

Thank you, hokatie. Here is a pic of what I typically carry in a TPM. Of course, my phone also fits. You are right about the PM. It is a little big and I never fill it up, but I love it nonetheless. I am 5"8. What color are you thinking of?

Thank you for the reply, Dextersmom ❤️! I have a tots so I have to carry a few more things than wallet and key. I think the PM may be a good choice for me. I love the Etoupe color most, then the red and black. But it depends on what color is available in store at the time I buy it .
Btw I love your Gucci wallet too. It’s so cute with the butterfly. But I already bought the new wallet recently, can’t buy the new one anymore .
