Ode to the bolide

Did you get this information about the Bolide 31 from an SM in a Hermes store? Are they taking a pause in production or discontinued this model?

They are now making a much bigger Bolide which doesn’t seem to be popular.

The 31 would be much lighter and smaller, to me that doesn’t make sense not making her anymore 😞
Yes my SA told me. To be clear I was referring to the classic Bolide 31 , the 1923 version is still available.

I talked to my SA about Bolide 35, as I have been wanting her for a decade.
She said the bag was rather heavy and the demand on her was low. That's why they stopped making it.

It's not heavy (I have 2). Your SA is talking nonsense

They've been making:
Travel size (45) heavier
Bs 35 & 40s - much heavier
Ks 35 & 40s - heavier

When is the last time anyone saw a Bolide 35 new at the store? I ask because I recently got a vintage 37 (which I understand is the same as a 35) for work and love it much more than I expected. Of course now I want another. Mine is a 37 from 1992 in Peau Porc, but unfortunately it's been repainted to black (originally Camel or Caramel?) and is missing all it's attachments. Love it anyway though.

I'm sad that someone painted it because natural colours of PdP look fine with patina. Whoever did it though looked like they did quite a good job. the only tell-tale sign is the zipper.

I have been looking at Bolides in store since 2009, the only sizes I've seen are 45, 31 and Secrets + 1923 (and Web): 45/30/27.

If you suit a 35/37 you will have to buy preloved unless they bring it back. It's a great size. .

I bought a Bolide 35 from the store in 2006 or 2007, can't remember exactly, which I have since sold and am still kicking myself :cursing: it was a gorgeous Rouge H in Clemence.

That sounds gorgeous! I'm sorry you sold it too, but you did what you thought you should at the time.

2009 in New Bond St, I asked if the Rouge H phw 1923 Web Bolide Travel-size (45) came any smaller. It was in the men's section and was one of the first batch of bags going from Gulliver leather to Swift (I have one now in Brun Chocolat phw stamped 2008). Sloane St also looked for me, even called Paris, but could only offer a in noir or brun chocolat 45. Soon after it seemed all Bolides were 31s.

I think my Bolide 35s are both from the '90s, I bought them preloved.

What I don't understand is why H doesn't capitalise on the dame-shape handbag trend of the moment? :shrugs: Bolides/1923 are the originals.

It's interesting how the Row with their Nina and India etc have brought the dome bags back into fashion. I'd much rather have a vintage H Bolide/1923 rather than a new Row. How many times have I heard that dome-shaped, hand-held bags are old fashioned? Now suddenly a celebrity fashion brand do them and they're 'in' again :cray:

My style inspiration was my aunt's 1980s Gold (courchevel?) leather Bolide 35. She carried it everyday, more formal than my mother's style (she had a green LV Noe). I couldn't believe she would not just gift it to me  (it's only later I found out how expensive 'expensive' bags were) my mother was always passing on things to me (but hated H bags worse luck).

I know it is sad. I thought perhaps I was getting a cool, rare black version (but suspected it might be painted, a gamble I was ok with for the very very low price). I'm considering having it blasted with frozen CO2 to see if it can safely remove the paint layer, or maybe just putting some stickers on it and enjoying it the way it is.

I feel like Hermes is frequently behind the trends. It's both a good and a bad thing. Good bc quality isn't a trend and they need to keep it that way, bad bc I WANT WHAT I WANT NOW

Hi Bolide lovers, I am wondering if you can carry the 25 on the crook of your arm or the handle is still too small? I am debating between the mini and the 25... the mini is cute but really small and wondering if the 25 is more functional. Thanks

I am wondering the same thing! I love the style of the Bolide, but the mini is so tiny that I could barely hold with 4 fingers. I have the 25 on my list, but that would have to at least be able to hang from my wrist. Would love to hear others opinions about this!

I have a Bolide 25 and can comfortably carry it almost to the crook of my arm. I actually don’t wear my bags up that far - usually on my forearm. The measurement between the inside of the handle and the top of the bag (handle gap? sorry don’t know the right term) is 7cm. Plenty of room for me and no danger of scraping my watch against the bag when hooking through my arm.

Hope this helps!
