I'm sure this has been asked a lot but do any of you with mules/loafers get vibram soles put on? or do you just wear them? I'm concerned about ruining the sole but I have worn my orans many times and they have been okay.

What's the general consensus on protecting and prolonging the life of the shoe?

I was so happy when the Calya Clogs appeared again! I'm a US size 8, so I ordered size 38 and 39. In bare feet the 38 felt a tiny bit short, and the 39 are a tiny bit long. As I also want to be able to wear these with socks, I kept the 39.

They are made without a rubber sole at the front (so very slippery) and only a thin one at the heel. I asked my cobbler to add a rubber sole to the front, and to replace the thin rubber one at the heel with a more substantial piece. He did such a nice job for me, very pleased!

Before - as received

After - with new rubber soles at front and heel

Hello! Even with the new rubber soles they are still noisy! But, I hadn't worn mine as received on a hard floor before sending them off to my cobbler, so can't compare to how they were prior. I did just take mine for a spin for you on our wooden floor to verify , and they sound very clompy and loud! I've yet to wear mine outside. It's been so hot here! It's finally cooling off, and I had planned to wear these in the fall/winter.

Thank you! And, yes, I was afraid I'd likely slip on our carpeted stairs on my very first outing! :oh: I also thought the soles would quickly wear. But, I was determined to keep them as they're otherwise beautifully made! When I brought them to my cobbler, he made suggestions and showed me the materials he'd use. It's just the kind of work cobblers routinely do, so I felt very comfortable having him do this. But, others here seem to feel fine wearing theirs as received, so maybe unnecessary. I just thought the work would lengthen their lifespan. And, the new, thicker rubber soles can be easily replaced later as needed, before I wear into the wooden bottom. I hope you can keep yours (altered or unaltered), good luck! :flowers:
Thanks for your encouragement to keep my pair. I ended up taking them to my local cobbler who added a layer of thin rubber protection to the entire length of the sole. Not quite as elegant a job as yours did, but I live in a smaller city and think it just doesn't pencil for my cobbler to keep a wide variety of sole/heel options on hand.

I wore them out for the first time yesterday and am thrilled that I got past my hesitation to keep them. I had them on for a 10+ hour day day (office, errands and out for a cocktail) and had no comfort issues at all. While they are heavy compared to a sneaker or loafer, the weight is well balanced and I didn't have weight fatigue. They are somewhat noisy, especially on hardwood floors, but I had expected that and am not overly bothered by it.

At this point I'm so happy with them I'm considering getting another color. I'm going to try to wear them a few more times before giving in to that temptation, just to be sure my initial impressions stick and to see how they wear from an overall quality perspective.
Ah, the slippery slope of H!

So happy to read your update, and yay, regarding your cobbler's solution! :flowers: You certainly gave them a thorough test drive, too! Nice to hear you've found them to be comfy, even after a long day. I feel the same as you, I'm leaning towards getting another color!

After reading the posts on the mules, I dropped mine off at the cobbler last week and should be getting them back in a few days. I hope he will be able to do as good of a job as others have posted. I also have not worn mine much, mostly on carpeted surfaces (lol), but I'm really hoping to get more use out of them without feeling self-conscious about the noise!

I am def going to bring mine to cobbler as well !! I do hope they bring down the decibels !
