I do think it's a bit repetitive to have two bags, same size, same hardware, one sellier and one retourné - unless you reaaalllly collect. I have seven or eight K28s including gold Togo retourné, and I probably wouldn't repeat in this way. I would wait for a K25, K32, Birkin, or other bag. But, YMMV
i agree! Do you also think it’s too repetitive to get a b30 Fauve
barenia phw when I already have a gold Togo b30 ghw? Would love some opinions!

I see barenia and gold as very different. The gold Togo is warmer and less brown and won’t patina. The barenia is more brown and will patina over time. I would get use from both but I prefer neutral bags and don’t desire a big colour palette in my bag choices. I would only get both if you love the b30 style and size that it would be a very used bag.

What are people's opinion about Barenia Noir? Are there are pictures? Thank you!

I am debating on Barenia Noir or Barenia Fauve Faubourg.
Currently Paris seems to only be sending out Heritage smooth Barenia available in Fauve and Ebene and Faubourg in the same colours. Noir does not seem to be back in production and it has been a long while since.
To me Barenia in Noir has a certain finish which of course can scratch, and a more matte sheen characteristic of the leather. Personally for a black bag especially in a Kelly, my first choice is Box or Chevre. My preferred Barenia is smooth, in Fauve which is why I decline bags in Ebene. It's all about personal taste of course.
If you are open to Faubourg then it's probably the most obtainable at present.
Good luck there!

I have several bags (10 I think?) in Gold and several (five?) in Fauve Barenia, and yes, I find them quite similar, so I do not duplicate in the exact same model and size. The tone is similar and the naturel contrast stitch makes them look even more alike. The Barenia will darken a bit more than Gold IF you heavily patinate it, but it's still not that different. I try to keep some variation in my bags, for instance my Gold Togo K28 is retourné and my Barenia Fauve K25 is selllier. All my Gold and Barenia bags are PHW/BPHW, but that is just my personal preference for this color.

If you are in a position to have near-identical bags with different HW to match your jewelry, though, it could make sense.

I'd love to see a picture of your Barenia family.

Somewhat odd question for the group. I just bought a pre-owned Kelly barenia fauve, and when I received it, was caught off guard by the smell - which is predominantly fishy. I have read in this thread and elsewhere how intoxicating barenia smell is, but I can’t imagine anyone would want to bottle up a fish smell. ;)

So the question - how would you describe the smell of barenia?

certainly not fishy
but difficult to describe
this may not be helpful, but I would say it smells like leather - rich leather; there is a kind of earthy quality.
I know that's a bit like saying a blue sky looks blue.
It is what it is.

I agree with @WhiteBus it is difficult to describe but it does not smell like a fish. I would say a saddle.

Barenia smells like oil-tanned leather (no not fish oil). Think of the candle scents that are called "leather" or the leather notes in some perfumes.
A fish smell would be from some other source 👃 🐠

What services could/would Hermes Spa perform for a Barenia Smooth handbag? I know the leather is imperfect and has scuffs/scratches but would they be able to get rid of oil stains or buff the bag? If this has been answered elsewhere, please point me in the right direction! Thank you for your feedback.
