In many ways this is not the place to ask, because it is populated by barenia enthusiasts.
100% desirable; if you don't get it, it could forever be 'the one that got away'.
Ebene could be closer to black than brown.
You need to see it.
Never pay silly money though.

p.s. surely fauve is in the brown family, albeit light
You are quite right. Should have specified not normally into dark browns. I too love smooth barenia just not sure about this shade. It’s a good price and barely used but sadly does have some light scratching to the front.

you have enough reservations to make you realise that however much others might lust for it,
it might not be the bag for you
follow your instincts

Does anyone know if H has offered the B25 in smooth Barenia with GHW? I’ve seen preloved smooth B25s in PHW and GHW with Barenia faubourg, but realized I should ask if the smooth Fauve GHW combo exists… because otherwise I’m keeping my eye on the preloved market for something that’s never going to show up

I do not recommend getting barenia if you mind scratches. Ebene is dark bittersweet cool toned brown. I have an ebene picotin 18, and while it has patina, it doesn’t look rich in the same way as patinated fauve barenia. In some light ebene looks silvery brown and in others almost marron fonce with a purple undertone. In addition, while barenia aficionados might covet ebene, it’s a niche kind of thing. If you want fauve barenia, you will not be satisfied by ebene. I like smooth barenia and don’t really think of BF as the same beast. I include group pics with other leather to give you a sense of the differences. Personally, I prefer vache natural to barenia, but that is even harder to find.

Fauve barenia 35 trim II, PHW; (first two pics) Compared with toile 35 B; swift 30B; epsom 25B
Fauve barenia 32 HAC, GHW; (third pic) compared with BBK 28, GHW
Noir barenia, 30B, PHW; (fourth pic) compares to swift 30B
ebene picotin pm, PHW (last pic) compared to ebene clemence 35 Victoria I

I absolutely prefer and own smooth Barenia bags in Fauve and Indigo. Black and Ebene Barenia are just not my preference and I declined an Ebene B25 offered at FSH a few years back. It doesn't sound as if you are 100% sure and if the color isn't really you, it may not be used often or go with your wardrobe that easily. Get exactly what you love and never settle.

Hi. I am not sure if H has offered this bag recently. All I know is that I saw this exact combination B25 in smooth barenia with ghw on display at my local boutique, and didn’t realize until that moment that I needed that bag in my life lol. Ultimate holy grail alert. It’s exquisite

I totally agree. I have both shades in the Evelyn style. While I LOVE Barenia, I find I dont reach for the ebene very much. I much prefer the look of the lighter color. Question why do you prefer Vache Natural. I have a Davly bag in outstanding condition but dont know much about the leather and how it wears? Just curious.

Vache natural was my first birkin 30 (its now with my mom). It was a @docride special, black with brushed PHW. At that time, years ago, she would also nurture natural VN into this incredible, lush, rich gold colored patina. Personally I always thought the luster and color and depth of those bags far surpassed barenia. So perhaps it’s simply @docride’s VN that I love lol. VN also felt smoother and silkier to my hand. I’m a fan of smooth leathers like VN, Barenia, Swift, Box, Hunter etc in general. I also had an indigo picotin pm with orange inside handles, but I don’t have a pic. but it’s somewhere on TPF. I forgot to add around 2008-10, ebene was as popular as black, and TPFers would mix it with black. I don’t really see that as much anymore.

Thank you so much for responding. I love smooth leathers as well!
