Thank you so much azukitea! I need the extra vote of confidence. I did see your post and did feel better after reading it but wanted to make sure nothing changed. Reading a comment about how it was not seriously not water friendly after I was so excited purchasing it temporarily popped my bubble. I do try to be careful using my H but things happen. I have gotten my clemence bags wet from a bit of sudden rain but those handle water well. I want be able to use my Barenia somewhat carefree which I thought the leather can handle.

Think I am feeling better. Thank you!

Would still love some updates for anyone that has Fauborg. So curious how it's aging? Wondering if it will get the sheen and beautiful color aging original Barenia does since it is not smooth.

Hi, as requested in the boutiques in London thread, I was having a chat with an SA regarding Barenia Faubourg and water etc. Now I know nothing about this leather other than what I have read on here. But he told me it is made by tumbling regular barenia to produce the pronounced grain. I asked him why then it was recommended to avoid water and he said Hermes recommends avoiding getting any of their leathers wet. I had my barenia k with me and said that unfortunately living in the uk means inevitably a bag will come into contact with rain at some point and that my Kelly is always totally fine afterwards. He then showed me his beautiful barenia Bracelet which was dark with patina and he told me that it does get wet when he washes his hands. He did say that the pronounced grain on barenia Faubourg may cause water to soak more deeply into the leather. But to be honest it sounds like all leathers are advised not to get wet as a matter of caution anyway so I guess it’s a case of waiting until it has been around longer to really know.

Enjoy your beautiful Barenia Faubourg B30 though, maybe don’t take it out in torrential rain for the day but I think the occasional rain drop is almost impossible to avoid and you won’t enjoy the bag if you worry too much!

I’ve also been cautioned about rain at a franchise Hermès store regarding togo and clemence, stories about blisters and that nothing can be done about them afterwards. At tPF I repeatedly read about the durability of clemence in rain and sometimes about togo too.

I’m not comfortable in rain with my togo bags but definitely barenia. Today we had a snowstorm, carried my ébene barenia B25 and no worries [emoji3]

Very interesting to read about the BF leather and how it compares to regular barenia.

That’s a great photo and such a beautiful bag! My fauve barenia Kelly is pretty durable and I’ve come to the conclusion it’s just best to let her gain any marks with time and enjoy her without worry. But I would imagine ebene being so much darker must be pretty much bulletproof!

Just another quick note on the durability of barenia.
My DH and I were in the car coming home from London Monday night. Suddenly the car beeps to let us know there’s a problem ahead, my husband slams on the brakes and throws his arm across me in the passenger seat, I automatically reach out and grab my Kelly (I hate to think what that says about our priorities ) anyway my long nails left great big scratches down the front of Kelly as I grabbed for her. Today with a very light wipe over with a tiny spot of saphir for greasy leather as kindly recommended by Docride every last mark has disappeared!

Thank you [emoji3]yes ébene barenia is great in autumn/winter. I can even carry it with black leather gloves (trying to use my bag colourtoned ones more in future). So far no darkening on the handles. The fauve one I carry in spring/summer.

Sounds like you are fine, so glad, it must have been scary. Love how you protected you K and your DH protected you! These bags are made to last and I enjoy working with the leather. Thank you for sharing [emoji3]

@Tonimichelle Thank you thank you for posting your Barenia discussion and experiences and responding to my request. You are so sweet to reply!! Very interesting info! Barenia Faubourg is still slightly mysterious but think you are right that the only way to know is to keep using it. And thank you for sharing your recent driving and scratch experience. Am so so glad you and your Kelly are safe and doing well!

@Serva1 Great pic. Thanks for sharing that you even get comments about Togo and Clemence. And thanks for sharing your ebene Barenia story too. I have definitely gotten caught in the rain with my clemence and no issues especially since I try to swipe off the dampness when I get a chance. Perhaps it's just a general rule and so I need not worry and just enjoy. I only have a couple of Togo bags and don't recall getting caught in the rain but for me I feel like Clemence and Togo are practically the same so I don't worry about that leather so much.

You’re very welcome and Kelly and I are fine! I had to laugh, my DH and I wind each other up constantly so my reaction was “oh how sweet you love me really, whilst I obviously love my Kelly!” He said “No, I was just concerned about my cream upholstery in the car!” He doesn’t mean it...

Am excited (and nervous) to say that I have joined this club and got a B30 Barenia Fauborg. But I am so nervous about my decision after reading about water issues. My dream would have been original Barenia but that choice wasn't presented. I know the BF leather is new so there isn't a lot of history. Would love any updates and feedback from owners out there. Can BF handle water? Would also love to see how people's patina and aging are going. Thanks so much for anyone willing to share some updates.
There is a thread called Barenia is Back... you might want to check it out as there are a few of us with experience regarding BF and water (it’s NO problem). This leather is tough!

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has photos of how black barenia ages please? I'm not gentle with my bags (as in I use them, they may end up on the floor sometimes and I will use it for travel so it will go under the seat in front of me - albeit in its dust bag) so if I invest in a beautiful black barenia I know it will get scratched up etc. I just wondered if anyone had photos of a nicely but well used black barenia so I could see the patina. Thanks!
