'I just put a deposit on a B30 Togo leather from 2014–and just saw this thread! Did all bags have the skunk smell in 2014? I hope not! It’s the bag of my dreams! I guess I’ll see when it is shipped to me. Did anyone get a perfectly fine B30 in 2014?

If you all have any other suggestions to test it when it arrives please let me know…and if anyone owns a B or K from 2014 that is ok—please let me know. That would just make me feel more optimistic about this!
Bags with a Q or R stamp generally have a lower resale price than other bags. Was yours also cheaper than bags from the other years? If yes, then it could be a sign.
IMO, if this were a few years ago and you could take the skunk bag back to H or a repair or replacement, then yes, but I would stay away from Q or R to avoid trouble these days.
Thanks so much for your info. No, it wasn't less expensive than other bags from other years I looked at. It is from FP, and it was priced about the same as others in the same condition. I had no idea that Q and R bags had this problem, untill I started to read this thread. They do have a good return policy, so it is returnable just sad because I really love the color and hardware. I did see it in person at the showroom when I gave my deposit and I did not smell anything, but now I understand that the odor doesn't come out until it is in the sun so there was no way for me to test that. So sad and disappointed about this. I thank all of you for sharing this info.

That is a good idea! I just think though after reading this thread that a wonderful experience of purchasing a Birkin may turn into a nightmare if that smell surfaces. So I’ll take this as a learning experience and avoid Q and R bags in the future. This bag sadly is just not meant to be!
