Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

Let's hope that this prediction is just a rumor...

That website Bag, Borrow or Steal? They stopped selling previously owned Coach (and other 'lower end' brands) and now exclusively deal in the luxury designers. Bummed me OUT. I scored about four nice bags there last summer. Two Coach, a Kooba, and a Cole Haan. Anyway, there's an example of a merchant who jettisoned the 'lower end' brands in favor of the luxury market and their research must have indicated this was the right move for them. They are still around... but I can't afford them anymore.

So I hope this won't be Coach's way. For I won't be shopping for $400 + bags in an outlet store.

I'm with ya, sister.

To continue I also agree that they are being a bit extreme. There is going to be a huge backlash if they take away the pce discount that they spoiled us with. Most of us already subtract the 25% or 50% whenever we see the retail price anyway. Coach can't just say: "Nope this is really worth $600" and expect us to accept it without question. Why? How is it different from your other FP bags?
Quite frankly, the only reason I have so much Coach (to which I only buy the leather...I stopped getting signature ages ago), is because I get the discounts. Otherwise, I'd buy other bags/designers--mainly because I can't see myself spending over a certain amount just for a Coach bag. I hope they don't take it away.

Generally speaking, the shopping in my town SUCKS!! We have a boutique but no outlet. The closest one is a little over an hour away. I don't see my boutique being able to support that price point. As it is, they don't get the higher priced bags in the first place. I would imagine this is the case in a lot of places all over the US. Our Macy's has already started giving MK a larger piece of the handbag department - so a total phaseout wouldn't surprise me at all. Will I pay FP for Coach in the future - maybe. I doubt I'd be buying bags costing more than $600 at FP. Tori Burch, Michael Kors and Rebecca Minkoff - all have handbags and clothing and for the most part the bags are about the same price point as Coach currently is. I really can't see Coach elevating themselves to the level of LV, Balenciaga or Prada - to name some of the higher level of bags. It's like Chevrolet all of a sudden putting a Mercedes or BMW price tag on their cars. I know it's not out of the realm of possibility, but just doesn't make a lot of sense. I may just start weaning myself off my handbag addiction.

Coach needs to pay attention to what happened with JC Penney. They have been fumbling around, not understanding their market and trying to be something they are not. Look where it has landed them.

The cache of "Premier brands " is exclusivity. There is too much Coach already out there, so they have kind of sunk their chances of being exclusive. Can anyone name another brand that has successfully made the upgrade from "Affordable luxury " to "Premier"? I cant think of one, but I am curious to read up on anyone that has done it.

That being said, there are many beautiful things in the world. If Coach wants to believe they are above taking my middle class money, I am sure Dooney, Kate Spade, or someone else will!

I'm really upset about getting rid of the PCE. That's the only way I can afford FP and the last thing I'm looking for is something overpriced at the outlet. Isn't that why it's considered an outlet in the first place? To get basically the same thing but at a discount? I'm so confused. I guess I will have to continue buying my coach on consignment.

And just what are they going to do with all of those $400+ bags that go unsold? Throw them away? They are too greedy for that; bags will still go to the outlet. Unless they try to pull an LV and only refresh bags once or twice a year but keep the classics. And they are too greedy for that too.
Ah well...there is still ebay and other brands. But I refuse to pay more than $400 for a Coach bag. They will never be on par with premium no matter what they charge. It's not worth it now, and won't be worth it in the future when you can get it for less at the outlet (which they will send them to). They have just ruined their "prestige" that LV covets fiercely by making bags available to nearly everyone. You cannot go back on that. Raise prices? That might work with LV and Chanel, but Coach? Ha!
This is perhaps why they have been "reinventing" Madison for MFF which makes me sad. Madison is one of their big money makers. But the difference in quality in FP and MFF (even if they say they're improved) is so great that us knowledgable customers will refuse it. They are going to lose "FP snobs" like myself.
I know I'm not the only one who has noticed what seems like similar leathers and colors being used for both MFF and FP. They have already started the phasing.

Does this new plan also mean no more FP deletes sold at outlets? I never buy MFF bags at the outlets because I know the quality just cannot be compared to FP bags and I cannot fork over the money even with PCE at the boutiques. So I am only left with either hunting/waiting for a FP delete at the outlets or at Macy's when they have sales like 25/25. I wonder what new plan they have for department stores too in the future...

Btw I do like the idea of them raising the prices and quality at outlets because everywhere I go I see a siggy and it's just soooo flooded. With higher prices less ppl will be buying and it'll make my bags a lil more special when I carry it. But my wallet will not like this idea...:nogood:

It's about time Coach made some changes, the constant merry go round of buy/return/ship return to new customer/new customer not happy with returned bag/new customer finds some microscopic insignificant damage/returns/rinse repeat............end up at outlet. There's got to be a better way to do business.

Doesn't worry me, if I don't like the new polices I'll shop elsewhere.
Booooyah. Life dont stop with Coach

Amen! I was thinking the same thing, look at what JCP did to themselves, it was self-inflicted. They didn't pilot any of the changes, they just put them in motion and rolled it out nationwide-dumb.

ALL my SIX outlets are ONE hour away and I hit them all.

This wouldn't make any sense. Looking at Coach.com, a very small portion of the bags are over $498. There are far fewer outlets than boutiques. The outlet doesn't have a permanent website available to everyone. Nothing about this makes sense.

HMMM I dont think that is true for SOME States.
I am between NJ and PA and there are many more outlets than FP stores in both States!
