Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

Wow, if this happens I will be buying much less. My outlet is over 2 hours away, and I can't always just drop $600 plus on a bag, let alone $1000. Even though I understand the strategy, I'm sad about it.

It's about time Coach made some changes, the constant merry go round of buy/return/ship return to new customer/new customer not happy with returned bag/new customer finds some microscopic insignificant damage/returns/rinse repeat............end up at outlet. There's got to be a better way to do business.

Doesn't worry me, if I don't like the new polices I'll shop elsewhere.

I do agree with this!

i was telling my husband the news and it occurred to me...i don't think my outlets will survive - the 1 closer by might - its RIGHT next door to a MK outlet and my guess is MK will raise their prices too... the other one is in a tourist outlet mall and people shop their for BARGAINS. LOL - $498 for a bag! Never gonna happen there. People will laugh and walk out.

As long as I can get my colors online, I'm happy, you know my penchant for online shopping and multiple colors!! I do visit the FP stores from time to time to see how the bags look IRL, and I have two outlets nearby.

How do the department stores fit in all of this?

Well,
If it doesn't work, then....they will do something else. Honestly, I don't know if bumping it up to pinnacle is going to work. You can't blame them for trying to upgrade their brand. And if Krakoff is gone, that is also interesting to see how it pans out.
People can only buy so many bags at $499 and not everyone is close to a factory. I am sure they will retain their classics line and have it available only online, because that continues to sell. As for the return policy, well there had to be a lot of people abusing that.
I probably have enough bags to last me for a very long time.

I'm curious about this as well.

really? I've never been in a flagship boutique, sounds lovely, but expensive!

The flagship (fashion?) store carries all the nicer bags, like they've had all the Carolines, Lily, Carrie, etc. The Coach store at the mall only has the lower priced bags, Madison totes, Isabelles, Poppy, etc. not even the regular Carrie. When the floor set changes, I head for the flagship store to see all the great new bags.

One of the outlet SA's mentioned the other day that Coach was going to be making some changes. Upgrading the MFF bags, trying to be 75% leather (so less signature). And she said they would be trying to make the brand more cohesive, as in less distinction between MFF and boutique bags. I didn't believe her at first but maybe she was right (she's not the brightest bulb on the tree). I don't like the $498 price point though. I think they are setting that a bit high and people will go to other brands for that price, because like others have stated, many won't want to pay $500 for a MFF bag. Oh well, I will just get the last bag I want now (something in Marine - a present for finishing my first year of law school) and we will all wait and see what comes!

Managers at my outlet also have to approve returns.

1. $498 and lesser priced bags will be factory bags only and no longer sold in boutiques.

2. Less frequent floor sets

3. Less siggy and more leather (more expensive) factory bags

4. Returns must be in person and approved by store manager, the return policy we know now is soon to be eliminated

5. Boutiques will sell pinnacle bags and smalls only, lower priced lines will be factory lines

6. No more PCE

I'm not sure if all of this will take place sooner or later or at all but this is what I've heard from more than one reliable source...

This! My understanding is that mff bags will be much, much nicer (and much more expensive) than they are now and boutique bags will be around 1K.

That's the point, things are supposed to change, big time...

The mff bags are supposedly going to be nice bags, just not pinnacle quality nice like what's supposed to be in the boutiques.

It's a bitter pill for sure, if it comes true that is.

I have heard all this and more (from more then one SA)

that sounds really odd especially considering department stores still hold a majority of coach merchandise where does that put department store merchandise?not to mention that dept stores will run there promos as always lil friends and family etc so technically the pce is still valid

I haven't heard much about the department stores but I have read a bit of chatter on tpf that a lot of stores lose money on coach and carry a smaller collection than ever before. Maybe they'll phase it out, who knows?
