Booooyah. Life dont stop with Coach
This does not seem to be a good business model to me unless they are wanting their boutiques to be museums instead of places people shop haha
It's about time Coach made some changes, the constant merry go round of buy/return/ship return to new customer/new customer not happy with returned bag/new customer finds some microscopic insignificant damage/returns/rinse repeat............end up at outlet. There's got to be a better way to do business.
Doesn't worry me, if I don't like the new polices I'll shop elsewhere.
The flagship (fashion?) store carries all the nicer bags, like they've had all the Carolines, Lily, Carrie, etc. The Coach store at the mall only has the lower priced bags, Madison totes, Isabelles, Poppy, etc. not even the regular Carrie. When the floor set changes, I head for the flagship store to see all the great new bags.
Coach needs to pay attention to what happened with JC Penney. They have been fumbling around, not understanding their market and trying to be something they are not. Look where it has landed them.
The cache of "Premier brands " is exclusivity. There is too much Coach already out there, so they have kind of sunk their chances of being exclusive. Can anyone name another brand that has successfully made the upgrade from "Affordable luxury " to "Premier"? I cant think of one, but I am curious to read up on anyone that has done it.
That being said, there are many beautiful things in the world. If Coach wants to believe they are above taking my middle class money, I am sure Dooney, Kate Spade, or someone else will!
When I first heard JC Penney was eliminating sales and coupons, I knew it would fail and it did. Consumers became conditioned to coupons and stopped shopping there. Coach has way to many PCE's and customers are now used to them. Hopefully they test a smaller market with any new strategy first, unlike what Penney's did.

my outlet is one of the new upgraded ones. it's a more 'visual' store. much more floor space, the SA's with portable checkouts (which confuse old people). They carry perfume, shoes and jewelry now, which is nice. But not a bigger deletes section, they just sprawl more of the MFF stuff everywhere and cram the deletes into a small section.

There was a very good article in WWD at the end of January about Coach's "new direction."

No mention of outlet stores, though.
